#Woggles

A quick photo of the woggle I made at our Cub and Scout Camp earlier this year. The lilac/purple one. (Cut the leather and added a stud clip, to be clear.)

Posting mainly to share with @forquare as he will be "assembling" his Scoutadelic one on video and it will involve the same intertwining.

(The other woggle is from the huge Cub Camp we attended the year before.)

A close-up of a red Scout neckerchief. It has been tied in a Friendship Knot at the bottom but has two woggles threaded on either side of the loop. One is black with the silhouette of a howling wolf in white. The second is light purple on the violet end of the range. It is intertwined thin leather and resembles a "Turks Head" knot.

I may have 29 woggles now… 😳

Today’s post brought 13 more!

To be clear, there’s a Lucky Dip offer at Burntstuff I’ve opted for twice now and you get 10 for 3 quid, you just don’t know what you are going to get.

Here is my Lucky Dip selection this time. Excellent selection!

Clearly the Universe thinks I’m going to be a Squirrel Leader (cc: @CaroleHeidi) that’s 3 I’ve had now!

(The 3 woggles not in the photo are custom orders, by the way.)

10 leather Scouting neckerchief woggles, 8 of which are circular, 1 a ring loop and the other rectangular.

One has the Christian version of the Scout Promise written in a spiral, one has an embossed Fleur De Lis with a plain design, another a Fleur De Lis with a dragon eating its tale, one says Baloo in a rope ring, another has Squirrels with a squirrel below it, one is a ring of embossed acorns, one is a hand doing the Scout Sign with Chief Scout In Training written around it, another has 50 Nights Away on it. A brown one has Senior Patrol Leader on it and the rectangular one has an embossed Viking rune that looks hammer shaped.

A business card is laid out alongside them.

A day full of Firsts.

This afternoon I did some paracord crafts for the first time, and with it I learned various knots for the first time too.

I made a Woggle for the first time. A Sailor’s Knot/Turk’s Head Knot.
And then went into do a Poppy Keyring. A Sailor’s Knot/Turk’s Head Knot, a Lanyard Knot and a Cobra Lanyard Knot.

Both were kits. Not impressed with the instructions overall, particularly for the woggle. Had to go elsewhere.

We are about to experience the weirdest Southern Culture on the Skids show of my life.

Photo of a people sitting at tables in ritzy sit down restaurant with a music stage, in advance of rockabilly and punk bands playing. The lighting is on tracks and focused, the decor is Scandinavian. The vibe is surreal.

I’ve went from ZERO woggles to 13! They aren’t all for me though.

You may notice 2 of those in the photos you don’t see the front. That’s simply because they are personalised with names.

The Scout Law one I got made up for me. The remaining 10 are from their Lucky Dip. You get “samples of woggles on this site, over production, unpaid orders or slight seconds”. You don’t know what you are going to get, but you get 10 for £3. Exciting!

Can’t recommend Burntstuff.com enough. #ScoutingUK #Woggles

A small cardboard package opened and showing13 scout woggles from the back.you can see the rivets on the leather on each one. They are all sorts of colours. A thumb obscures one that doesn’t have its back showing. The company’s business card with their website address is showing. An open cardboard package with 11 woggles showing, alongside a business card with website’s address.

The woggles all have different designs, some with text, others with images. These include stick figures with zimmer frames, a laughing Santa Claus, a panther head silhouette, a campfire, a squirrel, a wolf and various sets of initials representing roles in UK scouting.

My Poll just finished.

Results are 88% use a Woggle and 13% use a Knot with their necker/neckerchief/scarf.
The other options got ZERO votes. Eight people voted.

Yeah, the percentages don’t add up to 100%. Go figure. 😆

Totally unplanned, but this ended with a month to go to Cubs resuming. 😀 ⚜️

Personally, even though I’ve not got mine yet, I’m pro-woggle.

I am inclined to learn the knot shown in my Poll post, having said that, as I think there will be instances I might want to be sure things stay in place…or I lose my #Woggle.

Plus, like badges, they are a thing to collect. And I’ve already developed a love of badges already…😜 🔰

And they are iconic, like the neckers/neckerchiefs/scarves.

This popped up on the #ScoutsUK social accounts today.

Guess I should have a practice tying this on a handkerchief, since I’ve not been invested yet.

I’ve noticed, on the TV, in newspapers, social media, etc, that there are #Scouts, both young people & adult uniformed volunteers, who either don’t use woggles or use #knots & #woggles.

I’m asking all of you who wear a #necker, what do you do & what’s your reasoning?
