How can we be kind to everyone who lives in Fremont?

Pets can be an important contributor to a person's social
welfare and well-being. Almost half of unhoused residents in Fremont reportedly have a pet. However, having a pet can make it difficult to access shelter
resources. In a 2015 study, 49.2% of unhoused
respondents reported that having a "pet makes it harder
for me to stay in a shelter." Losing access to a pet can
cause major stress for anybody, and losing access to
their human companion causes major stress for pets as
well.

Programs like the City of Fremont's CleanStart Mobile Hygiene Unit, which has been temporarily suspended since January 2024, provided laundry and shower services to unhoused residents in the city." a vehicle or an RV. Safe Parking Programs offer unhoused
residents living in their vehicles a place to park as well as
access to services, such as bathrooms, water, and health
and housing assistance. The City of Fremont and
artnering fair-based organizations have 15 safe parking
spots available for residents to be able to use."
