Actually finished him last night, but I wasn't feeling up to writing the alt text at the time.

I unfortunately broke a peg off trying to fight through a too-tight fit, so I had to cement one of the shields on. I don't think that'll actually hold particularly well, so I may need to drill to reinforce, but for now it's *fine.*

Good Boy's lookin' pretty fine now.

Another photograph of Good Boy's opposite side. It's essentially the same, except the front left leg has a shock cannon on it instead. The paint on the left side is probably overall a lot more marbled than the right as well.

Starting with Nick's new digs, the caps are swapped from orange to black. It makes the orange on the shoulders stand out that much more, but... I think I'm fine with it.

Good Boy's body is finished. The AC cannon and other accessories will come later, maybe tomorrow.

It looks worse in pictures than in person, which is an odd contrast to, say, Natalia, who got a lot of compliments from people who only saw pictures of her, but whose flaws are apparent in person.

A photograph of the original command wolf I built in 2023. It now resembles the motorized kit from the original Japanese release of Zoids back in '84, save for the weapon lacking a gunner's seat and the orange rings around the shoulder armour. And the greater degree of detail and colour separation, of course.

A photograph of the new Good Boy. Very few parts of him are unpainted and it really shows: the skeleton is black, the pipes on the exhaust are gunmetal, the armour is blue, and even the pipes on the backs of the legs are copper. This contrasts nicely against the bare orange plastic caps. The paint on the armour looks roughly sketched on, rather than brushed, which is frustrating to say the least.

A macro photograph close up to Good Boy's cockpit. The silhouette of the pilot is clearly visible through it, and you can maybe tell that he's been painted gold.

Sitting out the only pride thing I wanted to go to this year trying to want to live, so let's build a dog.

Remember Good Boy? He was my first, from January of 2023. The first pic is his core. It's going into a new body. That's right, my good boy is getting chassis surgery :3

The paint on the armour wound up a bit.. I dunno, marblier than it looked like it would before it fully set? It's alright, but kind of a disappointment after the effort put in.

A photograph of the finished head of Good Boy's new body. It's an HMM command wolf, same as the original, but nearly every part is painted here: the teeth are gold, painted by me because this release doesn't have them prepainted, the armour is dark blue, with a metallic sheen, and the skeleton, not really showing in the picture too well, is black and shiny.

I had some more in the tank tonight, so I did the silver/lead grey mix and tackled everything that needs it. Shockingly, I wound up with enough of the mix, but not so much that I wound up dumping a bunch afterward.

This project is... well it's getting a little crowded, trying to keep everything with enough room to properly dry and set :blobcatgiggle:

There's four other (small) sprues I had to locate elsewhere too. By far the majority of this model is painted now.

A photograph of yet another command wolf sprue, this time parts from the AC cannon shields, boosters and misc. The normally white plastic has been given a mix of silver and grey paint rendering it a nice gunmetal colour.

On the shelf are some build Zoids, tucked to the side out of the way (say hi to Ashley) and a drying paper with a bunch of black, finished sprues covering it. In front of and overlapping that are the two hobby tables, each with their own drying paper and three wolf sprues apiece, one set metallic blue, the other the gunmetal mixture (and the black sprue which got some of that for detailing some pieces). It's a cluttered mess and this isn't even all of it.

All effects were done in camera: Micro LED for the eye, iPad for the background.

Day 1. Probably. Iunno, I might do more tonight.

Body, head, and weapons pieces done. The center sprue (E) didn't need a lot of paint, thankfully. Most of those pieces are from the command wolf's normal main gun, but this'll be an AC variant (note the sprue on the right) so I didn't paint them.

There's some bare plastic on the AC sprue as well, because I want to do the barrels in gunmetal. Finally, there's pieces which will need gold or silver detailing at the end.

A photograph of Beatrix's crafting table. It's covered entirely in command wolf sprues stacked two high, all in one uniform colour, plus the painting bowl and the tube of lead grey paint that is going to have to coat nearly everything here.

The second test piece turned out much better. It's somewhere around a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio. The shine looks great in person, and the colour is just a little lighter than I was looking for.

The bowl was still a little wet when I did the second test pass, which actually led to the pretty fetching weathered look of the piece. I might do that intentionally next time.

A semi-gloss finish to protect the paint and it looks like the metal shine goes unaffected. Perfect.

So this isn't related to the guysack I have but I have another incoming command wolf who I'm going to fully paint.

Yeah I know I said "never again."

I wanted to do the white bits of the weaponry in gunmetal, but also didn't want to buy any more paint if I can avoid it.

You know what's close enough? Silver and lead grey. This shows a 1:1 mixture, which didn't turn out super great. Weirdly it matches the shine of the plastic, rather than really having any metallic sheen.

I got my final guysack model in a week ago (hopefully final :blobcatgiggle: ) and wanted to take a look today to figure out what I'm doing paintwise.

Got to the caps, noticed they were a slightly lighter grey, but something I could definitely do with a mix of lead grey and white grey in the right ratio... and then realized the tail, which has molded-in "caps" I would normally paint to match, is the exact same colour.

This might be a bit less work than anticipated :blobcatthinking:

Naturally it's already done; RMZ kits build quick to begin with, and the helcat specifically is small and simple. Also the least I've ever spent individually on a Zoid, incidentally :blobcatgiggle:

Weirdly, it has by default an unpopulated hardpoint on the back. Those are all over the original Zoid kits, but they tend to be left off of poseable kits, so it's odd seeing one on the helcat.

Him's a good boy, but RMZs have no zoid core, so no name.

A photograph of the helcat in snake form. The tail is a weird small spindly thing with joints in a couple places, and the legs will go on over some ball joints which are, oddly, able to twist slightly up and down (to adjust shoulder position, I guess?)

The obligatory feet pic. The helcat's feet are three pieces; a top, a soft piece with a ball joint for the ankle, providing a little flexibility for the foot itself, and one of two sets of claws for the bottom. I chose the extended claws, as the retracted ones are just a bit too short for my tastes.

A photograph of the assembled helcat. It's a very small model, only about six inches tip to tail, in a mixture of gunmetal grey and a darkish red (though not quite burgundy). The legs each have a piston and screw which are painted in their traditional gold and silver, and the forelegs have copper tubing on the back of the shoulder as well. It has a shock cannon which looks oversized for it on the underside, and a basic two-barrel gun on the back. There's an unpopulated 3mm peg on its back between its front legs, an odd holdover from the original '80s model kits which the RMZ line have mostly thus far ignored in other cases.

Another photograph of the completed Zoid. In this one it's posed in a pouncing stance, held up on the small grey flying base it comes with.

It's... not nearly as good as the Bandai bases, not gonna lie.

This is the second of the RMZ line of Zoids that I picked up, the hel(l)cat! It's a Zoid I've wanted for quite some time... though preferably in HMM form :blobcatgiggle:

I did some piston-and-misc detailing with my metallic paints on Friday when it arrived, then started assembly yesterday.

The head is one of those empire standard cockpits, but with kitty ears over top of it, and that's goddamn adorable. It's surprisingly expressive if you leave it partly-open.

In this shot the "mouth" is slightly opened to show the green better, which also makes it look... surprised, perhaps?
