Distributed throughout South Western Mediterranean Europe and the Maghreb. Camponotus cruentatus (Latreille, 1802) use to nest underground, specially below large rocks in dry ground. They take advantage of sunbathed flat stones to provide a heating system into nest, as warm stimulates development of their brood (eggs and larvae).
