"Marigolds," Koloman Moser, 1909.

Moser was a leading figure in the Vienna Secession (whatever that was, I assume an art movement) and one of its guiding lights. I just like the shine of the blossoms against the foliage...this isn't flowers in a vase, it's flowers in nature.

The fascinating artist Tina Bauer-Pezellen was born #onthisday in 1897 in Kotor, Montenegro; then Cattaro, Austro-Hungarian Empire.

She studied in Vienna and later was influenced by the work of the great German artists Paula Modersohn-Becker and Käthe Kollwitz and her work shares their poignant sense of empathy

In the 30s she and her husband moved to Germany, but her work was denounced by the Nazis
