👇 This! Adobe hasn't been an engineering company for decades. What they are is a predatory financial zombie who are aligned against the interests of creative people, including their endless pushing of 'ai' fraud, which is an existential threat to jobs and the humanities #boycottAdobe #boycottFigma

I'm guessing, though I'd have to do more research to verify it, that Adobe's revenue rocketed when it moved to the cloud model.

I used to LOVE their products. I used Photoshop and Premier - they were solid, feature-rich applications. I used them for fun though - not for money. When they moved to cloud subscription-based offerings, I was out.

Their new terms of service are their next step of corporate fuckary. The underlying story here is that AI needs your content to build content and Adobe needs to access it. I mean, if they didn't "ask" your permission it would go against their ethical guidelines right?

Lucky for us, we don't need their products. There are other options (I've used) for Photoshop (Gimp and Krita), for Illustrator (Inkscape), and for Premier (DaVinci Resolve).

2.2 Our Access to Your Content. We may access, view, or listen to your Content (defined in section 4.1 (Content) below) through both automated and manual methods, but only in limited ways, and only as permitted by law. For example, in order to provide the Services and Software, we may need to access, view, or listen to your Content to (A) respond to Feedback or support requests; (B) detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security, legal, or technical issues; and (C) enforce the Terms, as further set forth in Section 4.1 below. Our automated systems may analyze your Content and Creative Cloud Customer Fonts (defined in section 3.10 (Creative Cloud Customer Fonts) below) using techniques such as machine learning in order to improve our Services and Software and the user experience. Information on how Adobe uses machine learning can be found here: http://www.adobe.com/go/machine_learning.4.2 Licenses to Your Content. Solely for the purposes of operating or improving the Services and Software, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free sublicensable, license, to use, reproduce, publicly display, distribute, modify, create derivative works based on, publicly perform, and translate the Content. For example, we may sublicense our right to the Content to our service providers or to other users to allow the Services and Software to operate as intended, such as enabling you to share photos with others. Separately, section 4.6 (Feedback) below covers any Feedback that you provide to us.(From Adobe's AI ethical guidelines) Generative Al, as with any Al, is only as good as the data on which it's trained. Mitigating harmful outputs starts with building and training on safe and inclusive datasets. For example, Adobe’s first model in our Firefly family of creative generative Al models is trained on Adobe Stock images, openly licensed content, and public domain content where copyright has expired. Training on curated, diverse datasets inherently gives your model a competitive edge when it comes to producing commercially safe and ethical results.

Hey - if you're looking for an alternative to #Adobe products, Corel currently has a software package worth about $1300 that you can get for $30 on Humble Bundle. (FOSS-bros, don't @ me, this post isn't for you.)

The bundle includes Painter, Paint Shop, Video Editor, and a host of other goodies. It's definitely worth checking out if you want to ditch Adobe but don't really like any of the stuff that people frequently suggest (like Clip Studio or Krita). I've used Corel software in the past, and while there is other software I prefer over it, it's very solid and powerful.
