We received several requests to enhance #CastLab, an open source app to cast your photos, videos, and audio to DLNA/UPnP devices like your TV or Kodi.
That will be done. More about this project: f-droid.org/packages/app.fedil

This week, on their community news #FDroid wrote some words about #CastLab

f-droid.org/2025/10/17/twif.ht

Screenshot from FDroid with the text:

"CastLab: Cast gallery media to DLNA/UPnP devices with playlist support, finally bridges the gap between our devices, via standard DLNA. While BigTech locks users with proprietary sharing/streaming/casting protocols that FOSS apps can’t integrate, DLNA allows users to stream to their own devices freely and with open source applications/servers end-to-end. Simplest example, stream your vacation videos to your own Kodi instance hosted on a common Raspberry Pi connected to your living room TV."

This week in #FDroid (TWIF) is cast live:

* #Taler real-world usage
* #Castlab to your #DLNA
* #Ente + #Tuta = <3
* #TesselGame mania
* #VirtualGamePad on Linux now
+ 8 new apps
& 189 updates

We are really happy that #CastLab reached the official #FDroid repo. This was not so easy for us, but thanks to the help of two volunteers, they made it possible. So a big thank you to them.

For #CastLab we plan a Google version that will also support Chromecasts.
But if we do that, we will make this version a paid one to support our work. We also plan to publish it on AppStore with the AirPlay support.
We thought about a one time payment around 3$.
What do you think about that?

#CastLab will have a compact Player Controller when scrolling media to give more visibility. Also, we added an autoplay feature to cast the list of filtered pictures.The duration can be set between 1 to 30s (default: 5s).
For videos/audios, it will play the next one, immediately after ending.

There is a list of different media and the Player Controller is open in full size.Same picture but after scrolling, the Player Controller was automatically resized to give more visibility to displayed media.Screenshot of the Player Controller where the autoplay button has been pressed. By default it is not enabled.By enabling the autoplay, it is possible to change the delay for playing next media. By default the value is 5s.

While this account is mainly dedicated to #Fedilab, we also build some other apps.
Currently, we are working on an app called #CastLab. We made great improvements on it. This app can be run on Android or iOS

The goal of this app is to easily cast media from your device to TV or devices supporting apps such Kodi.

CastLab will be published only on #FDroid and no Google services will be involved such a Chromecast support.
