Richard C. H. Lenski, Lutheran pastor, comments on following Christ from (Lk 16:19-31,18:18-23). Some might actually have to sell their riches. It’s better to be borne aloft my angels than to be cast into torment as was the rich man in the story of Lazarus.

How many people would insist on their identity as following in Christ’s footsteps without thinking anything about Lazarus?

How can you kill the love of riches?

RICHARD CHARLES HENRY LENSKI (1864-1936) In His Footsteps "To kill the love of riches, and our dependence upon money, it may be necessary to take the heroic measure needful in the case of the rich young ruler, who was bidden to sell all that he had and give to the poor. It is better for a man to be borne aloft by angel-hands from poverty as distressing as that of Lazarus, than to be cast into torment after dining and dying in surroundings as luxurious as those of Dives."

Jacques Saurin, French Reformed pastor, examines some maxims, like charity begins at home. Have your revenge; basic decency all required, just don’t murder. These rules oppose the religion of Jesus Christ.

Would many Reformed people be petulant to condemn these?

How can you practice charity, forgiveness, and spiritual humility?

"Consider the multitude in regard to some general maxims which they adopt, and hold as rules and approved axioms. ... Charity begins at home.... A gentleman ought to avenge himself.... Provided we commit no great crimes, we sufficiently answer our calling. Which of these maxims, pray, doth not sap some of the first principles of the religion of Jesus Christ? Yet which of these maxims is not received in society as a fundamental rule of action, which we should be accounted singular and petulant to condemn?"

It’s #ChristTheKing Sunday today, and I’m reminding my parishioners that, according to #Matthew25 JC is more concerned with how many sick, hungry, thirsty, naked, downtrodden, & outcast we cared for more than he his with saying the magic words.

Impressive work. But Speaker fight illustrates why it’s not enough, yet. Many causing bad trouble would not be rambling august halls of government if simple indictments had already happened.

Democracy doesn’t need perfection right now, rather it needs action. As per the potential charges in the @january6thcmte report.
