Why are social media apps so anti-edit button?

It seems something everyone wants. Is their something I'm missing / don't understand about it?

can we get a goddamn edit button? @bsky.app - what's the big deal? "Live-streamed" and "event" not love streamed and even. #editbutton

DAE use microsoft teams chat for all or some of the following reasons?

It's not meta - too much zuckerbergishness.

It's not Google - Google Chat *is Good* *except* that, for me, and I assume others, maybe have a setup on their phones where we use the "multiple users" function to have an "alt space* where we can be a little more laid back than our *default space*. the issue being that, we have to keep our google profiles separate on those two multiple user spaces, because, if we login to our default profile inside the "alt user space with our alt google profile", it could risk like, for example, what if images and crap get mixed up on google photos or some shit, that can be kinda annoying, or possibly more than annoying.

Google has *almost* solved this issue with private space in android 15, however, private space, while it works in the default user space, we *cannot* create a private space in an alt user space. so, google, please bring us the ability to create a private space in a second user space. thank you.

It is microsoft - basically, the issue with the google stuff from just above, and also, that its not meta, but also, *because its not either of those* i find that the features and functions have given rise to better innovation which leads to my following things -

The edit button is comprehensive (allows editing any message at anytime, and not just for text, but for files and photos too.

multiple devices - but way beyond just whatsapp. whatsapp is so f**kin limiting in terms of having multiple logged in "sessions". like, you have *one* main device and can only add 4 extra and if you login by accident without adding a device as a linked device it wipes your whatsapp history. ugh. what is nice with teams chat is that while it *is* more similar to email in that its widely accessible without deleting all your stuff, you get all the teams chat benefits like the comprehensive edit button etc. you control your digital footprint on teams chat. if someone says "you said this" or something, its like the principle of it, well its teams chat, its a more laid back experience. you can communicate without having to feel like everything is 100 percent in stone, while still being able to communicate.

multiple android user sessions. stock android supports multiple users, which i think a lot of people may use for themselves to have an alt space in addition to their default space. whatsapp doesn't work in this regard because, you can't login on your default user space, and then link your second user space as a linked device, i guess unless you use a second *device* as the main device and then link each user space as a 2nd and 3rd device, but then you don't have access to your main device! its infurating! whatsapp needs to add the ability to have 2 main devices from which you can link multiple devices from each. at least give us the option. so this is why i like how teams chat succeeds in this area. it just works.

Microsoft teams chat is good, but it could use some improvements

My favorite messaging app: microsoft teams chat

It's my preferred messaging app for the following reasons:

1. Non-Google Login

On Android, using a chat system independent of Google enhances privacy and security. Logging into Google Chat automatically connects the account to all other Google apps, creating cybersecurity risks. Teams Chat avoids this issue, giving users more control.

Google should offer an option to log in to Google Chat without affecting other apps.

2. Comprehensive Edit Button

Teams Chat allows users to edit any message—text, photos, or files—at any time, ensuring complete control over their digital footprint.

Google Chat, while offering anytime text edits, only allows photos to be removed, not reattached. Teams’ flexibility ensures better content management.

Why Not Telegram?

Telegram limits message edits to 48 hours in private chats, while Teams allows unlimited edits. Additionally, Microsoft, as a U.S.-based company with a proven 40-year track record, feels more trustworthy for communication with family and friends.

Feature Requests for Teams Chat

1. Improved Voice Messaging:

I switched from Google Chat to Teams partly because Google lacked voice messaging. Though Google recently added it, managing multiple Google accounts remains cumbersome. Android’s "Private Space" is a step forward but only works in the default user profile.

Microsoft teams chat needs to tweak their voice message button though so that we can tap once to record and tap once to stop. The "hold to record" button is so finicky that it doesn't work. I press and hold and it release itself cutting voice messages to just a few seconds. Google Chat got voice messages right when they recently added voice messages for all users. You can tap once to record (no holding and pressing required) and tap once to stop, and we get a nice transcript as well. It'd be nice for privacy if the voice messages played out of the earpiece by default, instead of the speaker, for both Google Chat and Teams Chat.

Google Chat feature requests:

Allow app-specific logins (give us the option to not auto populate all other Google apps with a checkbox to not do so upon login)

An *option* to enter passwords for account switching. The current way is ok for some, but many want improved security with regards to the account switcher.

Enable private spaces in secondary user accounts. While private space works on the default user, for those of us with a 2-user setup still can't use private space in our alt user space.

Microsoft Teams Chat remains the best fit for my needs—prioritizing privacy, security, and flexibility, but I hope they, and Google, make improvements to better compete with each other to give users the best options for communication, cloud access, comprehensive edit buttons, voice messages, and privacy.

Well, if we would've a #EditButton, I wouldn't have to create my last post three times and delete it twice ... But wait, #brain could be also very useful

I have thick fingers from punching things for a majority of my life. They are not designed to type on phone keypads.

another reason I need an edit button. haha

why Microsoft teams chat is the best way to communicate with loved ones while being able to control our digital footprint

you know what Google chat needs? the ability to sign in with more than just a Google account.

fictional observer: why?

me: because, I think might do something like call it the "Facebook messenger test"

fictional observer: what's that?

me: ok, so wherever you are, if you're on this device, that device, this profile or that profile, wherever you are, you can kind of count on the annoying fact that, if you sign in to fuckin Facebook messenger, you're not really carrying too much baggage, ...

fictional observer: so why not just use Facebook messenger

me: I mean, honestly, I do not like the fact that the edit button is so restrictive on Facebook messenger

fictional observer: why do you need an edit button

me: a lot of it is about the principal ... I want control of my digital footprint. yeah, we can *delete* messenges on Facebook messenger. but its Facebook. that's another thing. if i'm having a thread going with my mother, my brother, or other close family members, I really do *not* want it to be via a Facebook/meta property. i don't like thinking that fuckin mark zuckerberg is like, *part of it all*. ugh.

I want it to be Microsoft. I like thinking that the platform I'm using to communicate not only is a Microsoft property, but is also the property with the best abilities in terms of having an edit button that works indefinitely, and also allows not only text editing, but adding and removing images as well. full control of our digital footprint.

fictional observer: also, back to Google chat, why do you need the ability to login with other credentials other than Google credentials.

me: ok, so, I have a 2 user setup on both Android (pixel) and chromeOS (Chromebook). I have the default user, and an alt user. and so, I actively avoid logging into Google accounts from the default user when i'm logged into the alt user account. android 15 introduced private space, but that works on the default user, and not the alt user, so that doesn't really help me. I tried creating a *space* on Google chat, and like, adding the default Google account and the alt Google account, but that's not nearly as elegant as a solution as Microsoft teams. with Microsoft teams, I can literally just login on any user space, and I don't have to worry about it logging into all my other fuckin Google app properties like Gmail, Google photos, etc...

draft - Google chat is a good service. One issue I have is that, on Google systems like Android and chromeOS though, I can't have it replaced Microsoft teams chat though because, since it's a Google property, it carries the baggage of an entire Google account (photos, files, email etc) when logging in, compared to teams chat, which doesn't. If Google could somehow add the ability to have a check box to "just login to this one app (don't sign in to other Google apps)" or something to that effect, on android and chromeOS, it'd help maybe to give us a way to address the issue for now, until a more substantial fix came along, like the additional ability to login to Google chat with a couple other alternate forms of verification like a non-google maybe or the ability to add an outlook email as a login method or something like that.

draft - Microsoft teams chat, thank you for being the best cross platform cloud based chat platform and the generous edit button which allows us to control our digital footprint of text, images, and files, how we see fit.

Question: Can we get the ability to schedule an emoji reaction? Could you give users this ability? Or could you at least improve the schedule send function so it's less glitchy?

Thank you
