I *always* cut off the lower third or even half (if they are thicker stalks) cause it ain't worth getting a mouthful of wood, even if it is asparagus flavored. The only exception to this rule has been white asparagus. 🤷‍♂️

When in doubt, sacrifice a single stalk and figure out if you cut off enough. Raw asparagus is awesome!
