👣FESTIVAL OF AGES⛩️

October 22nd is a busy day for festivals in Kyōto. Up in the mountains Kurama village is readying to light 250 giant pine torches, while down in the city a parade featuring figures from 1000 years of Kyōto's history will soon be underway.

The Jidai Matsuri (時代祭 'Festival of the Ages') is 1 of Kyōto's '3 Great Festivals', along with the Aoi Matsuri (葵祭) in May and the Gion Matsuri (祇園祭) in July.

Participants dress in period costumes for the Jidai Matsuri. The festival celebrates over a thousand years of Kyoto history.
