I tried to capture the chaos core to the game's identity by squeezing as many colorful characters into the frame as possible.

Marvel's War Machine charges a laser ball in his palms like Son Goku and knocks Capcom's Jin Saotome out of the air with it. Capcom's Michelle Heart descends upon angelic wings, aiming to pop off her sci-fi sniper rifle. In the background, skeletons gather around a musical performance by that guitar-playing zombie guy from Capcom's Darkstalkers.

Capcom's forgotten hot guys Strider Hiryu and Captain Commando kung-fu battle in a steamy bathhouse. A middle-aged patron watches the melee from behind, getting a real good look at their backsides, and strokes his chin with great interest. Capcom's Saki is also present, giving a thumbs up after having just whiffed on her sniper shot. Her job here is done!

While a manic Dr. Wily raises rabble with a megaphone, Capcom kung-fu ladies Chun-Li and Tong-Pooh engage in a delicate, deadly dance of death. Marvel's Venom pops up like the Mortal Kombat "Toasty!" guy, tongue whipping green goo all over the place like a happy dog's wagging tail.

Cool-as-fuck X-Man Jubilee has seemingly betrayed her comrade Wolverine and is teaming up with Spider-Man to subdue the raging canuck.

You can tell My Hero Ultra Rumble has fighting game DNA in it because characters are seemingly copy and pasted across the roster, yet only some of the duplicates get unique portraits.

(I understand the differences between all these characters, I'm just pointing out that it looks odd if you're unfamiliar with the game.)

Revisiting this one, the backgrounds are amazing. Whatever method they used here is really effective at mise-en-scene.

And I love seeing SNK characters done Capcom style.

On a rainy downtown street on a grey night, commuters are shocked by an outburst of violence. SNK's Yuri Sakazaki determinedly lines up a Super Move on a brave but defenseless Terry Bogard, his arms wide, mouth agape. He left himself open and now he's being punished for it.

A passenger train listlessly passes by as SNK's Kyo Kusanagi and Mai Shiranui battle intensely in the arid, sun-blasted desert. A well-timed forearm strike makes contact with Mai's jaw, casting her face in intense pain.

Golden rays of sunlight stream past a mystical earthen tower as SNK's King and SNK's Vice engage in a graceful but deadly acrobatic dance of chance and death and romance and death.

In a grimy alleyway cast against graffiti-covered brick and mortar, SNK's Nakoruru, cuter than she's ever been, stomps SNK's Iori Yagami in the crotch, contorting his demonic face as if he's been caught in the ghost trap from Ghostbusters (1984).

Extremely late to the party, but just found out that apparently the Brook Wingman XB and XB2 are both hardware banned on current XBoxes.

Which on one hand is like "whatever, MS has made it clear they don't want my gaming budget anyway". But on the other hand, still extremely frustrating for all of the fighting games I did buy before coming to said conclusion. :/
