I'm very peeved that GTK has been strongarming the use of librsvg. Because some rust afficionados rewrote librsvg in rust, and so anything using librsvg now has to depend on rust. And LVM. And rust is bootstrapped. And LVM is bootstrapped. So now you have triple the bootstrapping, for your security breach needs.

GTK doesn't actually use rust. They don't even use librsvg. The requirement is only because the default GTK theme uses SVG icons, and the SVG to PNG tool they use in the build process uses librsvg.

Like, you can't even opt for a different theme that already has the .pngs. GTK just tells you "There ain't no librsvg so I ain't compiling. Isn't meson great?"

My "bot trap" uses a random list of common words to serve vaguely comprehensible garbage slowly to bots. I got a visit from Microsoft Bing/Duckduckgo once, and it's interesting because the words I serve are random, but the bot's choice in which words to follow are kind of interesting.

Welp, I get my eye partially gouged out tomorrow. Hopefully I heal from it. Been trying to get help for the terrible intense pain since January. Then this Thursday, a chunk of flesh taken out of my leg, while the dermatologists assure me I might have cancer, and don't treat my skin and nail problems. I don't have anyone to turn to for comfort or support about any of this. And I'm lucky to be getting any health care at all. #FuckEverything

Just to get an idea how things are going in the USA, I'm going to die of an eye infection, because the eye doctors said I would get one if I didn't use antibiotics while the eye bandage was in, and the insurance just told my pharmacy that I didn't need it for "a few days" without specifying how many days.

(My insurance, who are not eye doctors, I might add.)

It's probably fine I haven't completely run out yet, and maybe it'll be tomorrow, or the day after. Otherwise, it's been nice knowing you! Isn't it great how prescriptions keep us safe from ourselves, and don't finance a monopoly mafia in any way?

Anyone else have to worry about cancer before they turn 50? Go to the dermatologist to ask about my painful toes, he glances at a mole on my shin and is like "I'd like to get a biopsy of that." Little teeny mole that isn't changing or growing or doing anything odd. Well I told him I have like 300 other moles, some just like that, so if that one is suspicious then I'm gonna need a lot of bandaids. He just flat out said he wasn't going to look at the others. I guess I'm not rich enough to get the royal treatment of "actually checking if you have cancer." He mumbled something about insurance or whatnot.

Anyway today the lady on the phone treated it like some kind of big reveal, going on for a while before finally saying triumphantly that it was "precancerous" and the dermatologist wants to carve the whole thing out. I again asked her what about the hundreds of other moles on my body, and she said to bring it up and maybe he'd take a look at them.

Then she scheduled me for late July. As if that wasn't bad enough, she almost scheduled me for August. Like "OK you guys think I have an evil mole that's going to give me skin cancer, just gonna wait 2 months before taking it out?"

And the benzoyl chloride he gave me is useless. It's some weird immortal athlete's foot, not a horrifying staph infection. Bleaching it with acne medicine took the swelling down a bit, but the symptoms started to spread again. I need fucking systemic fungicide, because nothing else works once it's gotten under your nails. He was like "I want to try all avenues of treatment first before resorting to that." Like HEY ASSHOLE I have to wait 3 fucking months to see you for 10 minutes, so long that by the time my followup appointment is here, you'll have moved to another clinic entirely. You do not have the time to try all avenues of treatment first!

So yeah my cursed skin will kill me eventually, but they're like lol u have cancer and won't help treat my aching toenails. I figured as much, but I wish it didn't mean I have to get a gaping wound in my shin come July. Aren't they scarred enough?!

Churches are anti-community. I'm sorry, but it's obvious, the more I try to work with them. They exist not to form a community, but to divide it. Their only purpose is to exclude people who are not Christian. Or not of that particular Christian sect. Your church could be a community center, but they made it a church to prevent it from being a community center. That's what churches are, crazy religious nuts squatting on all possible available land for community centers, to prevent us from ever forming a community (if we're not Christian). I don't care how many nice old ladies you greet warmly when you go to church, I don't care how open and accepting they are of any race, gender or sexual orientation (as long as you're Christian). They're still elitist pricks bent on making people miserable (who are not Christian), and you should be ashamed to be a part of their community suppression operation.

So in case you #rust enthusiasts didn't notice, you ruined Gentoo, too. You made rust a requirement for compiling gcc because your language is soooo great, and your compiler takes a huge amount of time and CPU to compile, so they've made gcc depend on rust-bin. What that means is every (every!) Gentoo system can be compromised, just by sneaking malicious code into rust-bin. I know you rich kids think everything is fine and we can just buy more RAM, and we peasants don't need to be able to compile things, so why wouldn't we want to use an untrusted binary for literally everything? But fuck you. You're one bad day away from being just as fucked as I am.

And if you try to defend your horrible project of destroying open source and reserving compiling to rich kids, by claiming that Gentoo starts out with untrusted binaries, there is a very good reason for compiling source of the next update to a compiler like gcc. If someone sneaks malicious code into Gentoo's stage3 binaries, then only people in the future who install Gentoo from the bad binaries are at risk. When someone sneaks malicious code into rust-bin, then every Gentoo system on the planet is at risk, as soon as they update. Just to make it clear to you appdevs: bootstrap from binary once = more secure than use new binary for every update.

I hope this is opt-out, because I'm trying to specify USE=-rust now. But the fact that I didn't even know about this until I wondered why rust-bin was installed on my system means a lot of people with very high security requirements fell for your scam. Opt-out at the bottom of the fine print. Just like you slimeballs love.

So I can schedule a routine eye exam tomorrow, but for the serious actually very painful eye problem, the insurance company says I have to get a referral from my primary care practitioner, who makes me wait 2 months for a 15 minute appointment. Then (as referrals have gone in the past) it's another 3 month wait to get an eye exam.

Somewhere in that time, the government is going to cancel my insurance, so I guess I get to live with searing eye pain for the rest of my life.

So... first, if headers arrive, it updates the database and forwards those headers to the proxy. But it can't forward those headers until it's sure the database has committed, so that second thing gets deferred. Once the download is done, after updating the database, it has to forward headers to the proxy whether or not they've come down from upstream, because to forward the payload first just comes over as unexpected garbage data. But it can't do that until it's sure the database has committed, so that headers/payload forwarding gets deferred.

So first I forward the headers except not really. Then I forward the payload, except I have to send the headers first, except not really. Then once the database commits, I forward the headers, the payload, and then I forward the headers.

SQLITE_BUSY is just maddening. If it is busy, what you're supposed to do is rollback the transaction and try it again. As in, the entire transaction. Repeating all the database commands, until the commit finally works. So I pull data for an image out of my database, then send the image headers to some remote client, then oops SQLITE_BUSY on commit, so I pull data for an image, then send the image headers again, and the remote client complains that there is garbage headers in the image.

So any attempt to deal with SQLITE_BUSY has to carefully isolate all side effects until after the transaction is successfully finished. Which is great, except that committing 25 transactions a second really grinds on my disk and slows shit down. So I'd like to leave the transaction open and commit it maybe, once a second at most.

So that means all requests to my server now have 1 second latency, because I can't send anything until I'm totally sure the database isn't going to be busy. #database #programming #FuckEverything
