I’m seeing invasive dog-strangling vine pop up around my neighbourhood. Now’s a great time to get rid of it… long before it goes to seed or starves monarch butterfly caterpillars who thought they were safely on milkweed. Join my anti-dog-strangling vine vendetta on behalf of the monarchs?

Summer is a good time to remove it. Look for the lance-shaped leaves, green stem that twists around 🧵1/n

A print on 11” x 14” paper with a gel plate print in green with swirling dog-strangling vine with leaves and pods along with a flying linocut monarch butterfly in tints of orange, white and black. The monarch looks surrounded and the intent is for the green and the vine to look threatening like it is being encircled. It’s titled “European swallowwort and monarch butterfly,” signed Ele Willoughby and dated 2024.

April 8th. What's left of the Winter aconite (Eranthis hyemalis).

To be honest this print is hideous in my eyes, but I have set myself the rule that I have to go with the first imprint I do of each plant the current day, and this one was just this blurry. The idea is that if I can't spend too much time on each print, the project will not be too much of a hassle (free time is currently very limited).

Creating collage fodder - getting ready for tulip season.

Managed to spill half a bottle of acrylic ink: Quinacridone Red of course, a staining pigment. Fortunately, my entire work surface is covered in silicone sheets, not a drop on my tables or my turkish carpet.*

* why, oh, why,do I have a turkish rug in my studio area? Printmaking is hard on the feet - but, really, for inspiration, of course!

Ten 9x12" sheets of medical exam table paper and rice paper, spread out on my studio floor, mostly on a polyethylene desk protector. All bear messy, abstract shapes in red, pink, white and light purple - streaks, dendrities, and the un-planned red ink blots of course 🤭

Under all that is my lovely, dark denim blue turkish rug with a dusty looking repeating medallion pattern (the more elaborate patterns are at the borders :-).

This is the west half of my kitchen, by the way. I'm a much better artist than a cook 🤭 (and that's not saying much, in fact 🤣)
