If the massive army of *mainly* priveledged, Cis-Het, White 'experts' currently wringing their hands over the "Death of Democracy" had put in as much fucking effort into fighting authoritarianism and punching nazis as they have hand-wringing, maybe we wouldn't be in this shit hole. Or perhaps they could have just listented to those of us in #minority groups who have been sounding the alarm and fightning fo fucking centuries.

That massive army (mostly) told us we were being hysterical and we should look on the bright side and shut up, waving flags with us because it made them look good. If all of this convenient allyship doesn't show the need for minority stories to be told on days like #Juneteenth, I fucking don't know what does.

#HotTake A second hand #3dprinter (open source variety) is worth more than a new one. I have a second hand, well aged #Ender3 and I wouldn't have change it for one straight out of factory if someone offered to swap. I got it modded, added some tiny but significant mods myself, like a kapton tape in some strategic places or a direct deivinator. It's a much better machine than a new one. It is worth more than a new one to anyone with a brain. I got it for 2/3 of the price. It's a steal. Buy used 3d printers, it's really worth it, they are immortal. Ofc I'm not talking about those closed sourced, gated bs machines. I'm talking about the good machines originating from #reprap ecosystem and project.

Unicorns are cloven hooved. They are not horses with horns. They are built like deer or goats or moose. Some have beards.

Lisa Frank messed this up for everyone in the 80s, and now all the depictions are lazy and blocky and wrong.

Your 20 minute YouTube video is not a "master class."

Your 6-week training course is, in fact, also not a "master class."

Calling everything a "master class" is devaluing what it means to have mastery of some study, whether that something is part of a masters-level advanced degree program or traditional guild ranking structure.

I will accept things being labeled "journeyman classes" instead.

Okay, here is a #HotTake for those who follow me for that kind of thing:

One component of the billionaire-class pushing so much to AI is essentially a continuation of all the anti-#Wikipedia propaganda, telling us to not trust it, but rather go for the supposedly more reliable encyclopedias of big publishers.

The thing is: Wikipedia had quite competitive reliability from the early days onwards. But it was and to this day remains a largely community-run #openContent project without all that much #Corpo-Involvement. Wikipedia has always rejected money from advertisers and has strict policies against buying what it has to say.

I’m definitely not saying that it is perfect, but compared to the capitalist hellfest that most of the rest of the internet is, it is the one major holdout of a highly successful, non-commercial community.

And while you can criticize the Wikimedia-foundation for a lot of things, one thing remains true to this day: They do not interfere with content unless forced to by a court and are very transparent about it, when that happens. The actual content is decided by a community that everyone can join.

And as a result you get articles like “Surveillance capitalism” with open sections that contain statements like this:

You know why the AI vibe coding hype is problematic? Because it seems to shift the perception of developer productivity from "deliver the right code" to "deliver lots of lines of code".

I've had times where I spend a full week just to come up with a 200 LoC change. It was not a lot of code, but it did the right thing the right way.

We need to stop following the hype train and value deep thinking over producing a bunch of crap again.
