The 4th quarter #ARRL Roanoke Division newsletter is available at: arrl-roanoke.com/Newsletters/R

In which Division Vice Director N2COP reverses the previous anti-GMRS position he bull-shittedly expressed to me when I inquired why we weren’t in coalition with those operators to pass the Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act.

Considerable time and money has been spent on the campaign response database to integrate
Amateur Radio callsigns with the correct corresponding congressional elected officials. This proved especially nettlesome when a U.S. House of Representatives congressional district was split within the same zip code. You're correct that it would be nice if affiliated radio services would join in our campaign, such as GMRS, FRS and CB.
Please keep in mind that ARRL's Articles of Association and status as a 501[c](3) is to represent the community of those who hold
Amateur Radio licenses under Part 97 of the FCC.
Other radio services do not qualify under our charter, and advocating for them could run the risk of jeopardizing our nonprofit status. They are welcomed to submit their own comments on our behalf but soliciting that support could prove a violation of ARRL's charter. Also, many government emergency management agencies are prohibited under law from advocating for specific legislation. ARRL is reaching out to ARES organizations to join the campaign, but we have received polite refusals from government emergency management agencies because they cannot get involved.

Maybe there's still time, so I wrote: "How the ARRL's HOA campaign could be more grassroots"

If you are a member of a local ham club, encourage your club leadership to help spread the news in whatever way works best for your club. For example, my club, the Raleigh Amateur Radio Society put a highlighted banner at the top of the web site as a call for action.

David Minster NA2AA on HRCC to talk about this effort. More letters recorded in the first 24 hours of this campaign than the entire history of the attempt at the ARPA. I hope that many of Josh KI6NAZ's ~400K youtube subscribers pile on this — that would be a lot of letters!

He's pointed out a bunch of times that this is not just for the ARRL. It's for all hams. Well done!

Unlike FCC calls for comment there is not a deadline to wait for. The lobbyists collecting these letters need to be ready to go in and bring a pile of mail to a member of congress at any moment, on short notice. It could be tomorrow morning for your representative or one of your senators. It should take less time than reading this post to respond to the call to action.

If you are on Reddit, consider upvoting this post to help more hams see it there. Thanks!

The ARRL has posted more detail that includes links to the text of H.R.1094 and S.459, and explain both succinctly and clearly why a change in federal law is the only effective mitigation for deed restrictions.

If you are a US citizen holding a #HamRadio license, please add your name to this campaign to end overbearing HOA restrictions on #AmateurRadio antennas with bills in both the house and senate, both of which have bipartisan sponsorship.

Fill in your callsign, and your contact information will be automatically filled in from your FCC records. Change anything that needs to be changed, and click send the letter. Here is the letter that you will be sending to your senators and representative.

While the ARRL is coordinating this effort, this is not restricted to ARRL members. The only restriction is that it is limited to licensed US ham radio operators. This will be sent with your name and information to your particular senators and representative. Please join this effort even if you have left the ARRL or never joined it. This is for ham radio, not for the ARRL!

Even if you are not currently part of an HOA, even if you concretely plan never to be part of one, it's worth helping your fellow hams out, even if it's just for the better QSOs with more hams in more places.

If you are in a club, if it's an ARRL affiliate your local Section Manager should contact you. If it's unaffiliated or if you don't hear from your SM, EMAIL ME at keith@w6kme.org. It's not about getting clubs to affiliate with the league; I don't care. It's about getting the same rights for hams that all other citizens enjoy.
