Now that Twitter is a Junkyard, I Need a Way to Deal with the Twitter Posts Cited on this Blog

“Live, ongoing connections to people – not your old posts or your identifiers – impose the highest switching costs for any social media service,” argues Cory Doctorow in a recent post. Well, yeah, but hear me out.

It annoys me, the little things that hyper-financialization have done to the internet. Like this Deals bot that keeps showing up on every major server: no one is actually going to buy the things, but if the metric they are being paid on is number of clicks or places the link has been posted, that doesn't matter, because it's worth it to just have the stupid bot keep making accounts and spamming the network with posts.

It's not even useful work, it's not even selling any actual product, it's just filling the space with garbage and wasting moderator minutes.

At least we don't have a financial incentive here on #Fedi to be anything but hostile to that sort of behavior.
