Thank you for your responses, Dimitris!

Think I saw one of his photos shared in the Burn My Eye collective and after going to his page; it was his stark surrealism and dark tones that struck me! And from his very first response you can see what I mean and from there his responses carry that theme. For more check below:

Thank you for your responses, Vanessa!

I really just stumbled on her beautiful images of Haiti! After following her for some time now, I appreciate her penchant for squared up perspectives of people passing by. She nails the atmosphere and shadows in a way that is reminiscent of Kara Walker but in this medium and the extreme darkness at times really heightens this sentiment. Just really beautiful work that shows a part of Haiti we don't get to see in people simply living their lives passing by everyday. For more check her links below:

Saw one of her photos shared…and I was struck that although it was a surrealistic image I had seen shot (water reflection in cobblestone cracks)…she managed to add a layer to it that was her response to Question 7! From there just the simplicity in some of her other surrealist work like flipping the photo upside down like in her response to question 4 I found really special…and she finishes the interview with what I took for a nice Kertész nod. Thank you for your responses, Anne!

I originally met Anne doing an interview with photographer Osamu Kanemura and I recall her making a little post about his exhibit as well that was much more heartfelt and articulated than my actual interview. Which I just appreciate when people give that much more effort that doesn't make you envious or anything… but inspires you to do better. So I was happy to have her do this interview and knew that it would have an especially distinctive atmosphere and mood that her work invokes. Check her new website below:

Thank you for your responses, Argus!

I actually don't remember how I came across his work, but I'm extremely glad I did. This was the first ever visual interviewee that requested a change in the questions and not because the photographer couldn't find a good photo, but because how personal the responses he found were. I offered a different set of questions and after a lot of thought he modified a tad but still shared what was hard for him. And I hope he doesn't mind me sharing this but I really appreciated that because these interviews, although seemingly simple in just showing, can invoke a lot more than words can…that is why we photograph. Thank you for your responses, Lance!

Was introduced to Lance from previous visual interviewee Stuart Patton and immediately after following each other's Instagram could see why… I always say it and it is probably getting tiring for those who read all of my responses to the visual interviews, but…interesting people take interesting photographs. I just love his range, which is photography centric, but the painters he shares, the music, the literature, etc…in that if you really look at his photography you can see the layers of all of this. Think it was W. Eugene Smith that said literature inspired his photography the most. And with that love that he went with all color for his responses and the resulting atmosphere they invoke to give the interview a distinct mood. Check his links below:

Immediately you can see from the responses above, just how much his compositional sense stands out that led to this interview…and his use of color just adds to it! Completely agree with him on favorite vice and just the colors again throughout, rather moody in his response to Q11, saturated in Q10, or just the unevenness using fill-flash like in Q2…he just has a good sense for it all. Already that is probably the coolest "who are you?" response! The 3-3-6 combination works with the Leica III, M3, and M6 …and Bell & Howell 8mm! But it is about the photos and she provides such a funny cultural answer to Q2 with the truck full of baguettes haha. It was this humor and desaturated colors that caught my eye prompting this interview…for more check the links below:

Came across Anouk's work on former visual interviewee (and friend of JCH) Carson Lancaster's "Find Rangers" zine series. Thank you for your responses, David!

Came across David from his work as Co-founder and publisher of Peanut Press photo books that recently published a photo book by previous interviewee Preston Utley, "Eyes on the Road." At JCH we share in common his response to Q2 in watches and cameras as all of us have either the Omega Speedmaster or Seamaster…Bellamy of course has some Rolexes to add as does David actually…think I am the only one with just an Omega and a bunch of digital Casio watches haha. Really fun deadpan photos all around, check his links below for more!

Q8: What is your favorite vice?

Q9: How do you define childhood?

Q10: What is your favorite time of day?

Q11: Who is your favorite person?

Q12: What is the most important thing in any relationship?

Thank you for your responses, Stuart!

Had seen Stuart's work shared and simply put he does amazing photography. A lot of which and you can see in the responses above that use the old motif of window reflections that when done by most with any degree of success usually create two planes of his interest… that is the reflected and the inner world beyond the window. His take on the motif somehow features multiple planes that take on an impossibly cubist perspective in regards to the amount of planes he can shift. You can see this in a good amount of the responses above where at other times his complexity draws off of simplicity in simply looking down in a pub in his response to question 2 or simpler in his response to question 10. Also like the Michelangelo reference in his response to question 12. Do yourself a favor and check his links below:

Had been following Diego for some time on Instagram where one day it just hit me to look at his page to see his work in context. A lot of times, one off images just get lost in the early morning rollover scroll, so it was going to his page and just seeing the overall atmosphere of his work that made me think his interview would be quite interesting. And you can see from his first response the tone his work sets and like how it is capped with a similar location in the last response coming full circle. For more check his links below:

Jesse's Visual Interviews: David Lee

Q1: Who are you?

Q2: What is your favorite way to waste money?

Q3: What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

Q4: When are you happiest?

Q5: What did your first kiss feel like?

Q6: Where is home?

Q7: Which body parts (yours or otherwise) do you feel the most affection for?

Q8: What is your favorite vice?

Q9: How do you define adulthood?

Q10: What is your favorite time of day?

Q11: Who is your favorite person?

Q12: What is the most important thing in any relationship?

Thank you for your responses, David!

Had seen David's work shared, where his colors and compositions really stood out to me, most of which shared on Instagram are shot between Philadelphia and New York City. But in addition to this and really works in his photos is his layering where on more planes than one there is action. His response to question 12 is a good example (3,6,7,8,10 haha) with a young couple kissing in the foreground, a statue of an oldman in the mid, and a slightly older couple walking away in the background exemplifies this with an added suggested symbolism…really great work check out his Instagram:
