So, after decades of periodically rewatching John Carpenter's 'The Thing', I just savoured the 4K Universal disc.

Here's the surprise: Along with seeing so much more detail and colour, I finally *really* understood the ending, which few people seem to understand.

It is sinister and devious, and director John Carpenter hinted at it in an interview, so I at last have surety. Truly a perfect ending.

I watched Carpenter’s The Thing again last night. One thing (heh) I appreciated that I hadn’t really thought about before is how everybody just accepts what’s going on.
