A cinque anni dall’incendio che lo ha distrutto (tra l’8 e il 9 settembre 2020) l’impatto del campo sull’isola di Lesbo in Grecia è ancora presente nelle vite delle persone che lo hanno vissuto, mentre l’approccio alla migrazione da parte dell’Europa continua a essere quello della deterrenza, del contenimento brutale e della detenzione.
Attraverso una serie di interviste con persone che hanno vissuto nel campo greco, operatori sociali e attivisti che lo hanno conosciuto da vicino, il documentario scritto da Majid Bakhshi e Davide Marchesi e prodotto da ColoreFilm esplora l’eredità di Moria, raccontando la durissima realtà del campo, le ripercussioni che ha causato sulla vita delle persone e il suo ruolo nelle politiche di detenzione e deterrenza e nei processi di integrazione. Martedì 24 giugno dalle 19:00 al Circolo Arci Guernelli ci connetteremo da remoto con alcun3 attvist3 di No Border Kitchen a Lesvos, in Grecia, per conoscere la loro realtà e il contesto politico nel territorio conseguente alle politiche migratorie europee.
NBK è un collettivo politico autogestito e anti-autoritario le cui pratiche provengono da una prospettiva radicale e dal basso per la libertà di movimento incondizionata per tutt3. Da anni distribuisce beni alimentari e vestiti, copre le spese medicinali o di affitto per chi ha bisogno e rileggere il fenomeno migratorio attraverso una prospettiva di diritti e libertà. Praticare solidarietà quotidianamente ha dei costi e NBK non è un’organizzazione riconosciuta, per cui non ha accesso a larghe fonti di finanziamento.
L’evento di martedì vuole supportare dal basso questa realtà e dare l’occasione per condividere pratiche e prospettive di lotta.

Eνόχους έκρινε έξι κατηγορούμενους για το αδίκημα της παράνομης οπλοφορίας και της παράνομης βίας από κοινού, επιβάλλοντάς τους συνολικά 16 μήνες ποινή φυλάκισης στον καθένα με αναστολή τριών ετών, καθώς και δήμευση των κατασχεθέντων και έξοδα δίκης. More sketches from Moria Camp. A young boy writes his name on a blackboard in front of other children during English class taught by one of the volunteers.
This one was using a Wacom tablet. I never really got the hang of using a tablet separate from the screen. Was ok for navigating the screen and menus, but the hand-eye coordination needed made for an unnatural sketching experience. Using a pen on the laptop is better, or using a stylus on an Android tablet.
More sketches from Moria - back to digital. Every morning there is a lineup for fresh hot milk that is distributed for women with children and the elderly. Women bring empty plastic bottles to the lineup, and the amount of milk they receive depends on how many children are in the family. I learned how to count up to 5 in Farsi and Arabic. I have since forgotten how to do that.
More pen and paper sketches from the Moria Camp. In the midst of miserable camp conditions, ingenuity and inspiration can be found. Two boys made a toy airplane big enough to sit in from pieces of scrap wood and metal. Can you imagine what they would be able to do with actual resources!
Back to old school pen on paper with this Moria camp sketch. Remar SOS fed people three times a day from this metal box, around 3 metres by 4 metres. Everybody's friend, Moria Rex, helps Ana with the food distribution. Rex was a typical Greek stray. Anyone who has been to Greece would recognize the type of doggo he was.

Certain aspects of everyday life are unavoidable - like needing a haircut. Enterprising refugees had set up barber shops in the camp. You could get a shave for 2 Euros and a haircut for 3.
This is the Lifejacket Graveyard on the island of Lesvos. When people arrive on the island of Lesvos, they are picked up at the beach and their boats and life jackets are dumped at a landfill at the north end of the island. Hulls of boats and discarded inflatables can also be found here.
The name "graveyard" implies death, but, it can also indicate a new beginning, as every life jacket also represents someone who made it over on the boats.
Many thanks to those who serve food in camps on an ongoing basis - we were only there a few weeks.
On very busy days, for example, when chicken or lamb is being served, women will start to line up 3 or 4 hours before the food is given out.
The pallets used to bring in the water are highly prized, as they will allow a tent to be raised off the cold wet ground, or can be used as a building material to expand the living space.
Continuing with the Moria Camp sketches. This is the view of what they called the "Olive Grove", an expansion of the camp past its fences due to the large number of refugees. This area was tents only, not the UN provided housing.
