Reading the Atomic Habits these days, and had a little chat about it inside the community today.
The layered graphs are a representation of the 3 layers of habit processing.
The outer layer, is outcome based.
The middle is process based, and the inner layer is identity based.
For example, wanting to reach a certain weight goal, by either losing or gaining weight, is outcome based.
Wanting to drink a glass of water when you get up each day, is process based.
And being a person who eats and drinks well and exercises regularly is identity based.
Another example..
"I'm trying to quit smoking" is outcome/process based
"I'm not a smoker/I don't smoke" is identity based.
To me that also says a lot about how you say things. And what words you use to describe yourself.
Anyhoo. The third image are 4 "laws" of habit changing.
1-cue - what activates a habit?
2-craving - what has been activated?
3-response-how do you act?
4-reward-what are the benefits of your actions?
There's so much more, which the book is basically about, and I'm enjoying g reading it and retelling it here to integrate the knowledge even better. 😊
Have you read the book? Atomic Habits by James Clear.
