pssst! UC San Diego, there's nothing new or innovative about this: small cells and cellular densification has been around since at least #3g days. I know bcs I was one of the many RF #engineers in the days of #metropcs (before T-Mobile) and others who designed many small cells and DAS to 'offload' heavy traffic from the bigger towers and, thus, conserve phone battery and improve reception among other benefits.
