Oh-ha! A new direction in my portrait painting! 🎨 This piece combines oil and acrylic on canvas in my usual format. Unlike my typical approach of surrounding and overlaying the portrait with abstract elements, I focused on distorting colours and limiting the palette to two hues: a greenish petrol blue and a vibrant red-orange.
The portrait subtly nods to the classic green underpainting techniques (Grisaille or Verdaccio) often used by the old masters to bring life to skin tones. And remember the Obama „Yes We Can“-Campaign? It’s fascinating to realize that I’ve recently surrounded myself with objects in these exact colours—something I only noticed midway through the process.
For me it’s the beginning of a new journey, and I’m excited to explore this colour concept further in a series.
