#openSecretary

I found an app I like to use for the #openSecretary project. It is called GRIT but I specifically am using the version found in fdroid instead of the apple store version which has online options and information sharing.

What I am discovering is that the key to using planning apps when you are #ADHD is how you use them. Information posts upcoming.

#adhd This video short talks about ADHD overwhelm which makes since to me.

Too many thoughts leads to executive dysfunction.

It stops people from acting.

I need to make one thought come to the top so that an action can occur #openSecretary

A video on time blocking that talks about remembering and dopamine

It is similar to our idea for the app. #openSecretary They say it is hard to do it on a phone because it is a distraction devise. You start the day planning the day.
This is useful because it talks about color which I am working on for the buttons.
The idea about a special category for responsibilities (require other people) is a good idea. Also a color for ones you will like/want to do, and do one daily.

So I found an adhd app made by a youtuber that is supposed to be a planner and goal setter, but I can tell just by looking at it that I wouldn't use it, because it has too much clutter.

I want something very simple or it would not work.

Still it is worth looking at. Anyone have #adhd or #autism #openSecretary

apps that they actually use?

I'll tell you why I didn't. Because I was afraid that if I did not finish task A first, I would forget about task A.
Task A was to upload a set of photographs that I had just taken. I was afraid that if I did not do it immediately, I would forget it for months, because that has happened to me in the past. This is how the original app could have helped.
1. I see the spill.
2. I open #openSecretary and say Remember-upload photos
3. I pick up the spilled items and put them in a basket to sort later.

#openSecretary
The original app kept track of your time. It was manual, but I wanted to find a way to make it automatically measure it in the future.

What I need it to do is to keep track of your mood as well. This mess on the floor caused me a bit of distress. I physically stopped moving as I looked at the problem and tried to diagnose what to do.

What if it notices this inactivity, and prompts with "you okay" and offers suggestions.

Then it comes back with "Did that solve the problem?"

#openSecretary
What I actually did is step over task B and went on the task A.

But if I ignore task B, the individual items will get kicked around and possibly lost leading me to have difficulty finding the items. Lost items would be task C.

Ignoring task B will lead to a harder task ahead.
So
I should contain task B immediately after completing task A.

If it takes 45 minutes to put everything in it's place, but 5 minutes to pick everything up, I should get a basket and put everything in it.

#openSecretary
So, the problem is not just having time to do a task. The problem is how I think about the time. Because the time I will spend worrying about the problem will be longer than the time it takes me to do the task.

I came into the room to do task A. In my mind task A would take 15 minutes. I see the mess of so many individual items. Sorting and placing these items is task B. In my mind task B will take 45 minutes.

So I chose to ignore task B because it will delay task A.
What to do?

#openSecretary

So here is a problem.
I come to my desk to find that many small items that I had laid out on the desk have been swept to the floor.

I could immediately bend down and start picking them up, but I laid them on my desk because I planned to organize them and put them into the drawers.

My instinct is to step over them and ignore the problem because I don't have time to do that now. I came here to do something else.

What is the solution to this problem? What would help me solve it?

While trying to design an app that would help to accommodate a #neurodivergent person, I suddenly realized that there are ethical considerations when making an app.

Am I making an app whose goal is to make the neurodivergent person act neurotypical?

Am I making an app that relieves the stress of the person, but does not change behavior?
Am I making an app whose goal is money (helping the person keep their job). Or interpersonal (helping them with relationships).
WHAT IS SUCCESS

Researching how to make an #openSecretary app
1. Can you code on your phone. youtube.com/watch?v=S73BVF-v0r
2. Learning to program

He talked about a front end, a web interface, a database, and an application server.

I don't want a web interface. The question is, will a phone allow me to install a program with the database on the phone? I could make it downloadable, but I don't want anything online

Got a rec for free web security courses from portswigger.

in this environment, any real personal assistant app needs to save your data without you needing to worry about others reading or even changing it.

Anyone take this before? Is it good?

FUTURE FUNCTIONALITY

In the future, this program can be upgraded to measure real time. To make graphs. To write to calendars. To have alarms at specific times. To offer targeted advice. To have varied ringtones. To delay and ring again. To have more frequent alarms at different times of day. To have different color skins. To download data onto a desktop. To flash images or messages at specific times. (Such as - EAT NOW!)

At the end of the day, or whenever they want, the program will list a summary telling them the number of periods they spent in each category.
It will also list out anything they put in the NOTIFY category. They may dismiss each notify, or hold it on the list for the next time.

#openSecretary
Once the program is set up and turned on, the phone will beep or vibrate at regular intervals (default 30 minutes). Then it will prompt the user to chose a code to label that period of time. For example, they may label it WORK or MEAL or INTERNET. The program labels each half hour with a category.

If there is no entry after a beep, the program lists that hour as BLANK.

DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTION
To begin, the person downloads the app and goes to a setup screen.

On this screen they are prompted to put in categories (and perhaps assign a color, word, or icon to them.)
These categories are what the app will keep track of. There are two preset categories that are always available. OTHER(list) and NOTIFY .

@jakob

Sure.
I would appreciate it if you could help with our references list. That is if you already know of open source projects with similar aims can you add them as posts under the hashtag #openSecretary
