【Game Log: Mid-June 2025】


Ramp is over. I'm reasonably happy with how my map (MAP33) turned out.

Games Played

RAMP 2025 is underway. It's fantastic as usual. I will comment on individual maps elsewhere.

I played through one run of Quantum Witch and got an ending that was slightly sudden, but satisfying on its own and left me intrigued as to other potential paths. I started another run and was taking a novel path from my previous playthrough almost immediately. Unfortunately I was interrupted by IRL commitments and had to put it down for a few days, by which point I'd forgotten the button for important post-ending abilities, and as with many things in this game, because it's important information it's said exactly once in a non-repeated dialogue and not written down anywhere else (I restarted a new game to solve this). I really do recommend multiple playthroughs of this game, but the game makes it a chore in many ways.

I grabbed Automobilista 2 and its numerous DLC in the Steam sale. It's a moderately serious "Simcade" racer using the Project Cars 2 engine. The car range is OK, but the track range is incredible. The controller controls are pretty decent, though F1 style cars are as near impossible as they would be in real life. Though there's definitely occasions where some sort of "NO, this car at this corner CAN go exactly this speed" programming supercedes the physics engine, equally there seem to be occasions where the car retrospectively looses control for something that happened seconds ago.

I played about 30 minutes of About an Elf. I have no idea whats going on but I think I like it.

I took the advice of a Youtube person and added some mods to OpenTTD. Said mods immediately softlocked my game. This was my own fault.

9 Kings changed it's metaprogression to some weird synergy grid placement game. I don't know if it's better than the last. But it's consistent with my previous opinion that this game's metaprogression is entirely superfluous, and is only there because the developer apparently considers it compulsory

My list of downloaded Steam demos is finally empty!

Skipped a few, didn't vibe with a few, but finished most of them and added a fair number of them to my wishlist for the future.

Now... I do have a bunch of full games installed that I'd like to play (i.e. #LostRecords and #QuantumWitch), but I could need some time to separate gaming from "working", so I'll start with a couple of console games like #MetroidPrime2 and #SuperMarioBrosWonder while I do some webdev during my PC time.

【Game Log: Mid-June 2025】


Not much to say this time. Mostly busy with other things【Games Played】


Duskers is not as good as I remember. It does capture that most faithful of keyboard-only interfaces... Grabbing the mouse and randomly scrolling the text window that doesn't have wordwrap????

Surmount is a fun 2D platformer where you scale a mountain. You clamber up by gripping one limb on the cliff and rotating around a la Mount Your Friends. A bit too unreliable, but still fun.

PEAK is a gimmick chasing 3D co-op game where you scale a mountain with friends. Terrible controls that can't be changed, but there is a note promising that they totally will be an option to do that in the future. Fun with friends despite this.

Cosmic Express is an old puzzle game where you have to guide a train to an exit, while picking up and dropping off passengers in the meantime. The challenge escalates quickly, but is still gentle enough to actually learn the game.

Vintage Story a Minecraft-clone with a bit more realistic crafting and environment. I've tried it a few times over the years. It's OK, but it's the sort of game you realise you failed by taking the wrong first move 45 minutes ago, and then quit.

Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 2 is a silly fighting game with MSPaint characters. 54 Stars.

Squiggle Football, a deckbuilding Aussie-rules game. I played the demo, had fun. Then was hit by a "THAT WAS ALL POINTLESS!" player-unlocking metaprogression that killed my enthusiasm.

I went back to OpenTTD and had a lot of fun with some weird options. Still satisfying after all these years.

I started on Quantum Witch, but barely got anywhere. It's a simple and clumsy platformer where you end up making a bunch of choices that send the plot in different directions. Seems quite fun and interesting, and the writing, humour, and characters are great. But also I've played like an hour, and 20 minutes of that was spent having NFI what to do, because all progress was stuck behind a wall that is actually something you can punch through (explained once in a skippable dialog, while permanent and repeatable hint text offers nothing of use).

Played and enjoyed the #QuantumWitch demo two days ago but didn't get to posting about it in my log here until today, due to the Steam screenshot feature being non-functional in the game.

Had to re-enable OneDrive's screenshot feature and gather up some nice pictures today. Gorgeous pixel art game, so I wouldn't want to post about it without showing what it looks like.
