Commenting your regular expression is generally a good advice! thoughtbot.com/blog/comment-yo Works pretty well as described in the article not just in #Ruby, but also in #Perl (@Perl), #RakuLang, ...

@sjn

If this is about getting more (young) people interested in , then maybe a mailing list is not the right way to move forward?

But I'd like to see the idea of having more "fun" though! ๐Ÿ™‚

Dear #OpenSource #Fediverse: Is it time to revive some of the good old parts of the #Perl and #RakuLang communities?

I'm specifically thinking of the "fun-with-perl" mailing list...

nntp.perl.org/group/perl.fwp/2

(or maybe we already have enough #fun in our lives? ๐Ÿ˜…)

@lemgandi @cstross The reputation was for being "write-only", and was propagated by people who didn't realize one does NOT have to know "every" way to code it in order to write something well.

What one _does_ need is the ability to learn and teach, and to write code with a human audience in mind.

Coding can be extremely fun, and especially with #Perl and #RakuLang - IF you allow yourself to play and share the joy.

Don't be a #toolblamer, be a good colleague instead.

I should probably do some tweaking on my CSS but here's me back doing the Weekly Challenge in #rakulang and writing about it too.

This week was one of those pretty easy in Raku ones. Still I think I've covered some interesting stuff.

I just posted to my blog! It's about #rakulang where I was inspired by a meme format to write a little piece of Raku code, which I explain in detail.

Have a look! wakelift.de/2025/06/20/can-you

This toot should also serve as a good spot to "comment" on the post, since Ghost's ActivityPub integration is around the corner, but not running on this particular instance just yet!

Hmm, been playing around with some #rakulang as of late and I'm starting to get used to looking at all the symbols. A little bit at least.

But class attributes are weird. The code from the screenshot results in:

foo 2
boo 2
goo 1
bar 2

As I understand it `has Int $.goo` is like writing `has Int $!goo` and an accessor method manually. But unless it's defined `rw` you can't modify it in your methods. Shouldn't the compiler warn about this behaviour?

Previous weekend (5-10 June) @lizmat and I hosted the Raku Core Summit, in our own home in Echt, Limburg, The Netherlands.

Six of the top Raku core developers came over from the USA, Germany, Austria and The Netherlands. Four of them stayed in guest rooms in our house, the other two in a nearby resort's chalet.

Three more people were planned to come, but due to personal circumstances, thay had to cancel.

Still, Liz and six core developers, that was awesome, a lot of work was done.
