This goes for the US in general, but it helps to know where to find the community you feel you need to have, which is easier for me in urban areas (I'm in the #ResearchTriangle area, specifically #Raleigh). It's generally more diverse than Kentucky which I appreciate. That said, NC has its issues (I'll let you research on your own) and is known to be swing state in recent election cycles, bringing national politics to the forefront sometimes.

This looks like a cool job opportunity for someone in the #ResearchTriangle area (or someone who wants to be) that wants to advocate for better greenway #trails in the region.
