I’ve spent much of my #MicroMay playing through the Kingdom Hearts series from start to finish. I’ve greatly enjoyed my time and needed to see Cross as a keyblade wielder.

He is quite small, though.

Feeling a certain degree of dread in your daily life? @Variety's Michael Schneider recommends the TV comedies that are low stress, funny, with emotional heft, from "Shrinking" to "Somebody Somewhere."

“The goal is never to be like, ‘See if we can make him cry!’” said star and executive producer Bridget Everett of the latter. “It’s more like, let’s see if it resonates. We just wanted the show to feel like a slice of life. It’s that ‘Steel Magnolias’ laughter-through-tears thing. I laugh and cry all the time, as many people do. The goal was to make things feel real."

"As the outside world continues to disappoint, I prefer the reality of 'Somebody Somewhere' and its ilk," concludes Schneider.

ha tutto quello che una comedy del 2025 dovrebbe avere. La stagione due migliora tutto rispetto alla prima, alza l'asticella, si fa più corale, racconta meglio le sue cose, bilancia in maniera perfetta dramma, emotività e comicità. Una serie da manuale. Secondo me sfiora quasi la perfezione.

shrinking stagione 2 (2024)Shrinking potrebbe essere tranquillamente inserita nel manuale definitivo per la scrittura della perfetta seconda stagione. La premiata ditta Brett Goldstein, Bill Lawrence e Jason Segel da vita a un ciclo di dodici episodi davvero a fuoco, che non solo non tradisce quanto di buono mostrato nella prima stagione ma decide di alzare il livello, spingendo forte su tutto ciò che già aveva funzionato e su un’inattesa coralità del racconto e dei suoi personaggi. Messa in cantiere l’introduzione della storia e dei protagonisti, il concetto alla base della storia viene traslato su ogni storia raccontata: il canovaccio è quello del “terapeuta con problemi”, che cura i suoi pazienti ma dev’essere in grado anche di aiutare e curare se stesso. Nella prima stagione ci si era concentrati sul protagonista Jim, lasciando gli altri sullo sfondo: qui non solo i comprimari guadagnano molto più spazio, ma vengono approfondite le storie di personaggi insospettabili e inizialmente lasciati sullo sfondo. Questo non solo ha permesso alla serie di fare un salto in avanti con il ritmo del racconto, ma anche agli sceneggiatori di creare interessanti connessioni emotive e tematiche tra storie e personaggi apparentemente inconciliabili: si prende un tema e lo si linka tra le varie vicende con una leggerezza e una naturalezza che da vita a un insospettabile e coeso “racconto unico”, tanto nelle intenzioni quanto nella sostanza. Un meccanismo che appare sin da subito oliato e senza intoppi, capace di accogliere nuove storie, nuovi personaggi e nuove tematiche risultando sempre coerente con se stesso, mai banale e sempre molto divertente. Shrinking non solo si conferma una serie solida, ma cresce esponenzialmente in ogni sua componente, prendendosi il lusso di alternare comicità e dramma e di equilibrarli in maniera praticamente perfetta. Una serie moderna, di quelle che andrebbero mostrate nelle scuole di sceneggiatura per far capire come scrivere una comedy di alto livello nel 2025.
