I managed to get my 4000FLX controlling the ship in Elite:Dangerous, running in WINE.

The hoops, there were several. But once jumped through, I was able to fully control the ship. A six-axis controller makes it almost easy to fly around and land perfectly.

Anyway, now I'm thinking I'd like to try a SpaceMouse. Fusion360 and KiCad on a Mac.

Edit: PrusaSlicer too.

Circa 1992, I had a Spaceball on my desk. I wasn't "using" it; I was developing the driver for a better-forgotton 3D app. I think it was connected to an SGI Personal Iris. This was long before USB; it probably used a serial port. I don't remember.

I found it really hard to control. That's partly because I was using it with very unresponsive software, 2 to 5 frames/second most of the time.

Over the holidays, my sister gave me her old Weltron model 2002, sometimes called the "spaceball." What an iconic design! She was given the radio as a gift in the early 70s.

I just added it to a bit of new shelfspace in the Byte Cellar. It still works great!

And, as you can see, I enjoyed its sweet tunes from a rather early age (photo from ~1975)...
