Monitoring Southeast Coast for Possible Development: What to Expect This Weekend #HurricaneTrack #disasters #video #stormchaser youtube.com/watch?v=dZvHDAk0-f

Monsoon!

Monsoon season has arrived in Southeast Arizona. I’ve been watching storms and associated moisture work their way up from Mexico and it has arrived in glorious technicolor.

When monsoon season is here, I open the blinds in my office as wide as they’ll go.

There’s been some impressive lightning strikes accompanying the festivities, but it’s the rain that’s been impressive this afternoon.

I’m keeping track of storm progression on the Linux desktop in my work office as I make my way through the workday.

Shown in the screen shot:

  • Top left: RadarOmega
  • Bottom left: National Weather Service radar via Firefox
  • Small monitor (left): ADS-B Exchange (we have a receiver on our roof that contributes data) on a Raspberry Pi 5
  • Small monitor (right): Data from the Tempest weather station on our roof. The display runs on a Raspberry Pi 4

As of today the desktop is running on Debian 12 Bookworm Linux, having been moved over from Ubuntu Linux early in the day today.

I have hope that we may have a feisty afternoon in the desert southwest. This is from the Storm Prediction Center, with that area near Tucson indicating a marginal chance for Severe Thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. #stormchaser

A massive, rotating supercell thunderstorm hovers over an open prairie as storm chasers line a rural roadside to capture the dramatic scene. The storm features a prominent wall cloud with sculpted, turbulent lowerings that hint at possible tornadic development. The layered structure of the updraft towers above the landscape, while golden light glows faintly on the horizon. The dark, moody sky contrasts sharply with the grassy fields below and the figures standing near the shoulder of a two-lane road, cameras pointed skyward in awe.Alt text generated by LLM:
A powerful supercell thunderstorm dominates the sky over a rural landscape, with dramatic, low-hanging cloud formations showing signs of rotation. The storm’s base is dark and ominous, with a clearly defined wall cloud extending toward the horizon. The contrast between the bright, fading light on the left and the dark, rain-filled core on the right adds intensity to the scene. In the foreground, green fields and a roadside fence are visible beneath power lines, emphasizing the storm’s massive scale and approaching force.Alt text generated by LLM:
