Etymologically, a "consumer" is one who squanders or wastes (15th century). Economic discourse elides this meaning: reducing consumption to flipside of coin of production. Not negligence, but equilibrium.

#Lumpentheory speaks to bounty-motive. Born of crisis of #surplusicity, #RentBounty harvest and #perquisitive #classposture both find negligence in what is not taken, what is not gathered.

That is, colonial bounty-motive flips "consumption" on its head, renders the consumer as virtuous.

That is, the defining motive of #RentierSociety is not financial gain by way of labor exploitation, nor even abstract numismatic wealth accumulation.

Rather, governing assertion of rentier society is that one must receive that which is presumed given. The world is understood as offering itself up to be taken. Who are we to refuse? Thus the crisis of #surplusicity is resolved.

Rent-seeking and perk-seeking alike emerge of this naturalization. Harvest with no residue untilled. FOMO as duty.
