#transclusions

2023-04-17

In confluence (wiki software from Atlassian) there is an “excerpt” feature that lets you do “transclusions”.

You mark one part of a page as “excerptable” and then from any other page you can “include” that “excerpt”.

It’s quite neat. Helps you have the same content reused and reordered in different ways.

@temporal

... the ability to link to sections of a text ...

That sounds like #transclusions which is a fundamental principle of #Xanadu.

#Metawiki offers something similat, though it's not seamless / friction-free.

@ben @sir like something with headings, a few styles for marking text, formula, images and image galeries with suggestions float/left/right or take horizontal space, also potentially used for side-text.

Notes, references.

And of course links. Harder to implement, but pieces of texts being able to link to other pieces of texts, so people can visibly connect side-by-side. #transclusions

Like Ted Nelsons #Xanadu but i don't know if his approach checks the other boxes. youtube.com/watch?v=hMKy52Inta
