@swiftone @OvertonDoors @jmax @cstross #Transhumanists, believe the logic of tech is their saviour in that it can solve all their scientific problems. In fact for some, it is the the dream of immortality. That for what is prior and constitutes the manifold of being is a spurious argument. Sentient agents did not just pop into existence, but emerged from something infinitely greater than the mind of transhumanists. The dispositions of consciousness transcend finite being. The identity of dispositions properties as such are transfinite; non-linear and recurring, but not necessarily immoral. Being self-conscious is just a stage of being, a moment in the dialectic of relative time. Spirit as such is the history of the mind within the cosmos, tech logic has no mind, no reason to have it. No partial intelligibility of that which is comprehensive!

What the #effectivealtruism breed of #transhumanists don't get: a neverending abundance of lifetime makes our choices completely meaningless. Billions of simulated humans with an eternal lifespan are not maxing out joy but reducing it asymptotically to zero. Just the same as with products with endless features that promise to do it all. Everything valuable in the world is a result of making hard choices.

What all the #transhumanists I’ve met have in common is that they’re male, terrified of death & true believers in tech solutions to human problems, often without much of a grasp of those problems. Kurzweil was by far the cleverest.
Does anyone know of a transhumanist who breaks this mould?
