After WWII, the army wanted to design a publication dedicated to preventive maintenance that soldiers would actually want to read, and turned to (Will) Eisner. PS Magazine was a comic and a preventative maintenance magazine. Eisner was the artistic director 1951 through 1972 hiring a number of artists you've probably heard of.
