My graduate research was funded by the National Science Foundation. The research that sealed my tenure case was majority funded by NSF. Five of my graduate students have been funded by NSF. My current sabbatical is #NSFfunded. In short, #withoutNSF, I would not be the scientist I am today. #saveNSF

😓 These are the folks who provide satellite imagery, maps, and geospatial support to American scientists that operate in polar regions where most satellites don’t reach. FOR DECADES they have done this, supporting critical work. They have helped me many times. This is terrible. #WithoutNSF

#WithoutNSF we also would not have @VRubinObs and several of the other optical telescopes used to find potentially hazardous asteroids from the ground.

NASA does not address the impact hazard alone.

#WithoutNSF we would not have had the Arecibo Observatory until 2020; and we would not have the Green Bank Telescope, the Very Large Array, or the Very Long Baseline Array - all of which #TeamRadar has used to make sure that asteroids are not going to fall from the sky.

Google wouldn’t exist #WithoutNSF. Page and Brin started Google based on NSF-funded research they did at Stanford, which has made Stanford, Google, and lots of other people a lot of money. It’s made the rest of us stupid but that’s another topic.

The Merlin Bird ID app wouldn’t exist #WithoutNSF. 🪶

I wouldn’t be a scientist #WithoutNSF, from the first NSF-funded research cruise I went on as a philosophy major in college to funding for my research in all five ocean basins and seven continents. More importantly, Oceanography in the US wouldn’t exist after the decline of ONR funding without NSF.🌊
