#YesterdaysEnterprise, #CityOnTheEdgeOfForever, and #YearOfHell are examples of self contained eps where this kind of story plays out.
But over the course of a whole season it feels silly.

The episode "Before and After" ended up having quite an impact on Voyager's Season Four story arc. After the episode was created, Brannon Braga approached Rick Berman about theming Season Four around the "Year of Hell" concept introduced with "Before and After." Berman rejected the idea because he did not want to serialize the series. This lead to the self-contained two-part "Year of Hell" episode that we're all familiar with. The decision also meant that the events of "Scorpion" had to be limited to that episode and its only designated follow up episode, "The Gift."

I wondered how Janeway and Voyager could come back from the brink of destruction. There was no way back. There was only an alternate universe where they bypassed Krenim space entirely. (There's also the alternate alternate universe where Kes was still on board, Janeway and Torres were killed, and Kes and Paris have a daughter who marries Harry.)
