Today (July 28) is the Feast of Saint Alphonsa, the first woman of Indian origin to be canonized as a saint. Yesterday the St. Alphonsa Syro Malabar Catholic Forane Church in the west end held a celebration that included a procession accompanied by drumming. It was very loud and colourful. I joined some of my neighbours in watching.
