@pabloniusmonk Her ads seem more personalised (fashion, travel, etc.). It seems like Instagram is telling me / giving me the choice: either let us know everything about you; or we'll only show you ads about scams, gambling, porn-adjacent themes, crypto, ai, or, short, all the bad things you don't want to see, but advertisers are willing to pay for.

@pabloniusmonk I think mine thinks of it as the Linux of social media, only for geeks, nerds, freakies and computer programmers, or around 3% of the general population not interested in mainstream things, arts, humanities, etc. ... It's a shame 😔.

I guess, as I don't post enough on Instagram, and have tried to turn off ads personalisation, it just pigeonholes me as "white, middle-aged man, likely interested in vices, including gambling and sex-chat" 🤦‍♂️. Not at all descriptors I would choose. It is horrible and so dystopian! 🤢 🫤

Over the summer, I want to dedicate more time to the Fediverse, over other socials. I only go on Instagram because my wife uses it a lot, and so do friends. Though, recently, I have noticed I'm only ever getting ads for online gambling ads - something about a 'Chicken Road', I daren't search for what it is exactly - and AI chat lovers 🤦‍♂️. I hate the gambling industry, as I have seen it's abhorrent effects on people close to me, and I'm very happily married! Ufff!
