If I could go back to 22 year old me before her first “real” full time job, I’d tell her the following: In 33 years, you will be living in a country that is run by a dictator, punishes the poor, bullies anyone who criticizes him, shuts down any and all agencies that have anything to do with helping the public, and is responsible for illegal raids designed to incite fear and deport even US citizens. Plan accordingly. Fight harder to stop it from happening.

Saw a few articles on this recently, but couldn’t read them due to paywalls. Apparently,a majority of Gen X voted for Trump. Not sure how true it is, I sure as Hell would never vote for him, but I have a suspicion why it might be true. We were raised by boomers who by and large left us alone quite a bit, so we mostly grew up with no adult to really fall back on. We started our careers with no technology and had to learn, by ourselves, how to constantly adapt. We waited for our time in the sun, and when the eclipsing boomers began to retire, focus jumped from us to millennials. We’re as forgotten as adults as we were as kids. Now, we’re forgotten, taking care of parents, earning less than they did, etc. if I had to wager a guess as to why, it’s partly because we were always forgotten

But, most of my generation isn’t blameless. We were raised to think only of ourselves, to mimic Gordon Gekko, and John Hughes movies taught us to merely tolerate education. We didn’t have to buy into those notions, but we did, and that’s on us. We could have bucked those notions and we didn’t and that’s something that’s definitely on us.

I say this as a whole, and realize there are exceptions (like me and so many on here) Some of us bucked our generation and kudos to us. The rest, as far as their numbers, who knows? This is just a guess on my part. #generationx

Why is it that you can wake up at 4 am and are wide awake so you get out of bed, figuring you’ll never get back to sleep, then when the time you normally get up rolls around you’re suddenly so tired you’re ready to finally fall asleep? I hate #MenopauseInsomnia

This was a problem even before. My department was outsourced almost two years ago. I could not find a job. I barely got a callback. My side hustles became my lifeline and I just gave up.
