Vikram Seth is fantastic, and if you don’t want to start with A Suitable Boy (which is wonderful, but huge), An Equal Music is a good option.

and the fact that we are forced to compromise on sleep in order to fulfill duties to capitalism is an immense injustice and health risk.

lack of sleep obviously increases stress levels and therefore the risk for all kinds of diseases, but it also damages your brain on a cellular level because SLEEP MAINTAINS THE INTEGRITY OF YOUR BRAIN.

My only #NewYearResolution will be 'use your stickers', as it has been every year for a long time.

It's not just sticker-specific, but a reminder that leaving the sticker on the sheet does nothing. Choosing something to stick it on means it will bring you joy. Might that joy be impermanent? Yes, but everything has the potential to be impermanent, and what joy is there in leaving the sticker on the sheet?

Burn that nice candle you bought for the smell. Use that bath bomb. Enjoy that snack treat. #UseYourStickers.

Last up for today and my penultimate #DecRecs book: The Changeling Sea by Patricia McKillip. Oh yes we’re doing old school fantasy for a bit. Anyway!

The Changeling Sea is a quiet, poignant and lyrical tale. I’ll happily count it as a precursor of contemporary cosy fantasy as the way McKillip grounds and focuses the plot is something it builds on.

It’s also just a good, solid fantasy with a folklore sense to it. I love it!
