#DecRecs is over for now! Thanks everyone who recced a thing during December!
I've been crossposting my recs to DW and you can see them all (and previous years DecRecs) at my DecRecs tag
I am back to do the last DecRec post! I know I skipped a lot of days but it's okay...
Today's DecRec is a bunch of Loveless fic I ended up reading these two days.
Title: Drawing Straight Lines
Author's summary: Premanga. Spoilers. Soubi, Seimei. If art is a reflection of life, then life might be a reflection of rules.
Why read it: Lots of art metaphors. It's very beautiful (but also, it's Seimei, so uh, using a tag I saw on Loveless AO3, "Seimei is his own warning"). This is Soubi-centric.
Length: 4,485 words

Day 31 - #DecRecs
My final rec is for one of my new favorite tv shows, Abbott Elementary! It's a mockumentary style sitcom that follows the lives of teachers at Abbott Elementary, an underfunded Black public school in Philadelphia. Particularly focusing on Janine Teages (played by Quinta Brunson!) who teaches second grade and the other teachers she gets to know.
I've been a fan of Quinta since she was working at Buzzfeed, so I was really excited when I learned about this show! And one of the other actors played in Everybody Hates Chris which I also like.
The show is really funny and even the annoying characters are likeable or at least understandable. And there's a slow burn slowburn romance that's finally started to pay off in the fourth season! :annoyingdog:
The show airs on ABC in the US and is on Hulu, Max, and probably other sites too
Day 30 - #DecRecs
Reccing the SHINee song that made me a fan! :blobShineeLightstick:
SHINee - View
(How has it been almost 10 years :blobMeltSob:)
For the final day of #DecRecs I want to do something a little different: self recs!
So please tell me about something you made that you are proud of!
I'm going to do a thread of stuff I wrote in 2024
Let me share this fabulous version of "Stairway to Heaven" as a last contribution to #DecRecs
Stairway to Heaven--done with/accompanied with gakaku instruments (Japanese classical court music instruments)--and all performed by one guy in Heian court dress. NICE. Also, some of the backing images show a stairway to something very Ise Jingu-esque.
ROCK ON, Heian courtiers, ROCK ON.
It's the penultimate day of #DecRecs and I'm reccing another old favorite "Points of Origin" By Marissa K. Lingen
This story features, found family (literal), a grumpy reluctant grandpa, and daily life on Mars. It's charming and cozy!
Day 29 - #DecRecs
Today I'm reccing the game "Our Life: Beginnings and Always" by GBPatch! It's a cute visual novel where you grow up alongside your neighbor Cove. You can customize things like your name, pronouns, and appearance which is really nice. You can even choose your relationship with Cove and his appearance and demeanor, or let it be shaped by your actions.
I loved that choices in the game actually had an impact, and that past events and choices were referenced in cool ways. There weren't really wrong choices either so I could pick whatever I wanted.
And the main game is also totally free! I bought the DLC to support the team and it's on sale right now on itch.io and steam!

I'm still feeling pretty warn out form yesterday and not up for writing a long rec for #DecRecs
So please enjoy my tol nephew, Liu Yuning, singing 努力的人/hardworking people
Day 28 - #DecRecs
StreetPass on 3DS might be hard to do nowadays, but there's a fedi version of it now! If you visit a website where someone's verified themselves with their link, the extension will show their profile so you can check it out. It's always a nice surprise to see people that have a cool website are also on mastodon!
Day 27 - #DecRecs
Reccing this picrew archive I stumbled upon a while back! There's almost 200 picrew on the site to choose from with filters for body sizes, bipoc centric, queer centric and more!
It's been a very busy day and I haven't actually had time to sit down at my computer. So here's a drive by #DecRecs
The House of Aunts by Zen Cho!
The trials and tribulations of being a Malaysian teen vampire with six aunts
so i played a lot* of #videogames in 2024, which were almost all winners, but i didnt want to spend my entire #decrecs on video games. so here is my semiofficial decrecs spin off thread for video games, roughly in chronological order!
*a lot by my standards, when my normal mode is “get obsessed with one game at a time and play it for 80-120 hours”
#DecRecs here’s a comically large giant manta ray my girlfriend caught that is too big to fit in the aquarium
#DecRecs here’s me and my friends in our gay little outfits fishing together
#DecRecs day 27: today i am reccing a silly and fun little game called WEBFISHING. it’s very simple: you are a little animal with a fishing pole and you catch fish at an idyllic campground. you can play it singleplayer but it’s more fun with friends!
I couldn't let a reccing event go by with out yelling about The King’s Road: Diplomacy and the Remaking of the Silk Road by Xin Wen so that's today's #DecRecs
I love this book so much! It's about the nitty-gritty of diplomatic travel in Central Asia between 850-1000 CE, and it centers the city of Dunhuang, which was during this period sometimes part of various imperial states in the region but mostly an independent city state. I love that it decenters China!
(1/?)
today I want to #DecRecs the app TypeWise, which takes the revolutionary approach that a keyboard design that was initially created for two hands on a physical machine isn't ideal for a screen
It takes getting used to! But after a surprisingly brief period of adjustment, I am much faster and less prone to typos than with a standard keyboard design
the app uses tiled hexagons for all the keys, so keys have a larger surface area to aim for while fitting nicely together. you can use gestures right over whatever part of the keyboard you're already on, to add a space or to delete something - so you don't have to jump to specific keys located on an edge of the keyboard to take those common actions
caveats: its emoji picker doesn't have a search function so you have to scroll to find the emoji you want; autocorrect (a paid feature) is over-enthusiastic; the company is all-in in favour of AI writing
but overall: cannot imagine going back to a standard keyboard after using this one!
Day 26 - #DecRecs
Reccing one of my favorite rhythm games, Project Diva Megamix+! It's like the quintessential rhythm game for me at this point. The charts are satisfying to play, there's lots of classic vocaloid songs, and sincs it's on PC now, there's song and costume pack mods and lots of other customization options. There's 5 different difficulty modes from Easy to Extra Extreme so anyone can play regardless of skill level!
I highly recommend buying the extra song pack for even more to play! And some mods require having it as well.
