@mistressoakdown Good to meet you! I love ‘em all, Doctors & companions alike - really been enjoying the last few years with Jodie & Mandip. Fave story of all time, difficult but, well … top 3 classics … Caves of Androzani, Curse of Fenric & probably Robots of Death. Top 3 new… I’m counting Flux as one story, then Human Nature & The Woman Who Fell to Earth. But it might all change tomorrow! Depends on my mood 😎

Question is… having watched the Burton and then the Schumacher movies, and now these, do I go right into the Snyder-verse? I’ve seen Batman vs Superman already, years ago, and I didn’t enjoy it at all. But is it worth another watch and potentially a reappraisal?

2022-11-19

I didn’t take many pics after that because I was too engrossed into the movie. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. It felt like a neat conclusion to Nolan’s trilogy.

2022-11-19

When the football pitch is attacked the film pivots onto a knife edge. Gotham descends into anarchy and Bruce has to literally claw his way back.

2022-11-19

Tom Hardy’s Bane is a world away from Schumacher’s mute monster and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle is a revelation. She doesn’t quite have the darkness of Pfeiffer in Batman Returns but she’s 100% believable, and she & Bale even get their own masquerade dance in homage to Burton’s movie.

2022-11-19

Commissioner Gordon gets a lot more to do and new guy ‘Robin’ is terrific.

2022-11-19

I’ve been watching the Nolan/Bale Batman films the last few weeks and just finished off the 3rd one ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. I’ve seen it once before but hardly remembered anything about it until I watched it again just now. It hardly gets talked about but I think it’s pretty good!
It might even be my fave of the three…

Cyberpunk 2077 for £25 on Black Friday sale.
Anyone played this lately?
Any good?
Bugs ironed out yet?

The TV Movie. A transatlantic triumph or tragedy?
Tonight @geoffcockwill are recording our WHO CORNER TO CORNER podcast looking at Paul McGann’s very first appearance as the Eighth Doctor, so let us know what YOU think of the Doctor Who TV Movie and we’ll include the best comments on the show 👇

2022-11-18

I like to think that this is ‘regeneration energy’ restoring Chang Lee & Grace Holloway at the end of the TV Movie, rather than the Doctor “turning back time” but actually it really doesn’t matter. It’s a lot of hokum, but it’s a lot of fun too.

Tonight’s viewing pleasure ❤️

Same! Love those stories. I’ll have to check out the Warriors’ Gate book - it’s probably my fave story of season 18.

Today’s poem is called ‘Love Excels’.

[image description: a poem embedded in an Excel spreadsheet with the words contained within individual cells. Line 3 has words in a single merged cell. Line 4 has text wrapping applied. Line 8 has filters applied to each word]

Love Excels

Let’s spread ourselves on sheets of love
and turn our data into poetry.
Our cells shall merge themselves together
As you wrap your text around me.

Our sum is greater than our parts,
let’s crunch our figures without compunction.
Remove this filter from my heart –
you give me form and function.

We shall frolic among the formulae,
pivot our tables now and often.
I will total all your rows
and you can add my column.

This is the first time I’ve ever felt any emotion looking at a spreadsheet.
Fabulous! 👍😂

I mean … it kind of writes itself doesn’t it? 😆

It was really nice to contribute to this image of the Cone Nebula that ESO just released to mark 60 years of collaboration. It's one of the many things I love about my current job here: working with our amazing visual team to deliver cool images for you to enjoy.

What you see here is a pillar of dust and gas sculpted by the intense radiation of stars further up, outside of the field of view.

📷 ESO

The image shows the Cone Nebula at the centre of the picture taking up most of the frame. The shape of the dark nebulous cloud is that of a cone, pointing upwards. At the top and surrounding the cone are bright yellow stars of different sizes, tiny dots and bigger gassy spheres. To the left of the central figure, abstract dusty patterns are fading upwards. The top shines brightly, lit up by luminous stars.
