Mad social scientist, gardener, and science / history / English geek. Tend to mother my adult offspring, strangers, and small animals.
Western Australian born, and still here.
Trivia: My W.A. born grandmother saw a horse-and-buggy chase of police going after gold thieves in Kalgoorlie, pre-1900.

"I do not comply with unidentified armed thugs."
Memorize this. Use it.
If police should give me an order, I'll follow it. If military soldiers give me an order, I'll follow it (both within reason). If an armed, unidentified thug gives me an order, fuck that guy. I'm not doing a goddamn thing he says. I'm not going where he wants me to go. I'm not doing what he wants me to do. I'm not saying what he wants me to say.
He can either
1) identify himself, or
2) get his ass fucking tazed to the ground.
I DO NOT comply with unidentified armed thugs.
āCostsā and āSavingsā misses the point. But the diagram couldnāt be clearer.
In one category, trillions of dollars are transferred into the pockets of our billionaire president, his billionaire friends, and other very rich people.
In the other, the money is taken away from Medicaid, the environment, students, the poor and hungry, and the most vulnerable of our people. (As a bonus, the nation is plunged deep into debt.)
Elon Musk fired one of his top VPs over slumping Tesla sales ā Elon, buddy, try firing the guy in the mirror.

A good luck at Trump tariffs by Australian journalists. Sometimes an outsiders POV is clearer.

@backupbear Brilliant. Thank you for the geeky perfect moment.
HR: "Do you have a moment? We just want to ask you about your self-assessment?"
Me: "Sure."
HR: "So, for 'personality type', we were expecting something from Myers-Briggs. You know, like ENJF."
Me: "Oh?"
HR: "You selected 'Other' and filled in, 'Chaotic Good'."
Me: "Yes, that's right."
HR: "Why?"
Me: "Because I use the term 'fortnight' as often as possible in communications in a US-based company, replace 'z's with 's'es, and convert dates everywhere to ISO8601."
HR: "Well yes we can see how that would be classified as 'Chaotic Good', but we were expecting something grounded in science."
Me: "So why were you asking for Myers-Briggs?"
Many people wondered, who is this old gentleman who walked along the march with his stick yesterday.
He's the 86 y. old #FerencKÅszeg, who attended on protest even in the darkest times of Hungary's history. Protested against the #russians, #communist #regime, and now against Orban.
@Nichelle YES!
A question for folks out there who read fiction. I am an indie author with a new book. I do not use AI in my writing. Should I put a note or sticker on the cover which says something like "This story is entirely human generated" or "no AI was used in the making of this book." Would readers be interested / reassured by knowing it is all human-made? My covers are also designed using photos I took myself.
Edit: Please boost for reach.
Using "AI" is no longer optional at Microsoft. Reminds me how when Meta had to force their engineers to use their "Metaverse" product.
If your product doesn't even gain traction internally, maybe it's just ... shit?

US Dept of Defence Rapid Response account shared video and images of "police car on fire" etc. events to support Republican "city in chaos" justifications for federal takeover. Problem: events from 2024 to 5 years back were used.
This is how propagandists sway the unwary.

@DenisCOVIDinfoguy @auscovid19 The Oz Daily Mail is barely fishwrap quality, but...
Look for research separating heart attack cases by degree of vaccination status. Places like Australia, which DO have strong health record systems including vax records re Covid and flu, would be good places to dig - USA would need more "status unknown" to be analysed for data indicating probable status. (e.g. A MAGA Republican :( )
Just overheard 2 workers building the house next door:
Worker 1: Know any trans women?
Worker 2: Yeah, my kidās GF
Worker 1: Your kidās a homo?
Worker 2: She calls it queer
Worker1: What do you call it?
Worker2: Her god damn business. Fuck off.

In the 13th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, Putin's mouthpiece, Mr Kobyakov, said that the Soviet Union still legally exists and thus the war in Ukraine is an internal Soviet dispute in which the world has no right to interfere.
Free nations once under the Soviets will help Ukraine more, while North Korea, Iran, and Belarus continue to help Russia, and China and President Trump play both sides.
I hope the US Congress, Japan, Australia, etc. become more active in this 3rd World War.
Breaking: Tasked with rooting out waste, fraud and corruption in the executive branch, DOGE fires President Trump.
"If heās good as his word, Dutton would attempt to put the brakes on investment in large-scale solar and windfarms and battery storage, which has just taken off and begun to approach the pace needed to get close to Laborās goal of 82% renewable energy by 2030 and replace a fleet of coal-fired power plants nearing the end of their lives."
