J.K. Rowling posted a haunting selfie on her super yacht, smoking a cigar and drink in hand, in celebration of the UK Supreme Court Ruling that defines a woman as someone born biologically female, thereby excluding trans women. In calling it “TERF VE Day” Rowling aligns herself with the rhetoric of fascist politicians but also with the deeply transphobe history of Anti-Trans Movements. In her book Enemy Feminists, author Sophie Lewis lays out not only the history of TERFs but also other troubling currents in feminism, which at times veered into colonialist, racist, pro-police, pro-nazi territory. In order to deepen our anti-fascist, -capitalist, -colonialist, -racist, trans-inclusive, etc. feminism we need to understand these enemy feminisms.

Fascism is on the rise, in the US advancing fast – but it’s happening all over the world. Especially trans people are under immediate threat. The U.S. Departement of Health and Human Services asks people to rat out trans kids and their families. Meanwhile in the UK, the highest court ruled just last week that the legal definition of ‘woman’ excludes trans women. Sadly, transphobia has a history in ‘feminism’ [> must read: «Enemy Feminist» from Sophie Lewis @reproutopia]. Therefore the umbrella term ‘feminism’ always has to be specified as antifascist among many other demands!

We need to speak out and we need to fight fascism, because we can't allow history to repeat itself.

Intersectionality - one of the few terms [for now] that has not been taken over and thrown back at us as an insult. The most vulnerable people are affected by a multitude of discriminations. When a group of so called 'radical feminists' exclude Sex Workers [SWERF] or Transpeople [TERF] it also feels like a takeover of the term: feminism.

Patriarchy is still one of the fundamental structural problems in our societies. It remains the breeding ground for sexist thinking and the blueprint for power from the top down. This collage* is an homage to the famous slogan from more than fifty years ago. During the uprising in May 1968 they wrote the following in the streets of Paris: « Sous les pavés, la plage ! », which translates to: «Under the cobblestones, the beach!». A shout out for freedom and liberation.

With the upcoming Women’s Day on march the eighth, the feeling of rage drives us as we speak out against all ongoing violence and murders/femicides.

For the past years the total added up to one femicide every 2 weeks. So far the news in 2025 are pointing to a doubling of this sad and grim balance: There were 8 femicides in 8 weeks. How is this possible?!

With the rise of fascism all over the world – accelerated by what is currently happening in the so called US – marginalised people will be the first to suffer. Abortion and trans rights are being denied. Racist attacks are on the rise. Essential medication gets refused. Aid to war zones are cut.

The way we read this pasting: if a feminist revolution is not antifascist, it does not deserve to call itself by that name.

It feels like in this collage, ‘rapist’ could easily be replaced with ‘fascist’/‘racist’/‘transphobe’/etc. It is beyond comprehension how a convicted felon and rapist could take office as the president of the so called United States – notably for the second time. If only the implications would be limited to his country. But we live in a troubled world with wars, genocide, climate catastrophes and a capitalist system that marginalises so many people. This has to be addressed on a global level. As much as the Nazi-Salute of Elon Musk at the inauguration sends a clear message to the far right, Trump being a rapist encourages all the Andrew Tates out there to act in impunity… these are really dark and difficult times.

In her statement after the rape trial in Avignon on December the 19th 2024, Gisèle Pelicot talks about the toll it has taken on her extended family and expresses how grateful she is for the support she has received from so many people. She also mentioned the many unknown victims remaining in the shadows! She wants them to know that they share the same fight.
Even though all 51 abusers were sentenced, up to 20 years in case of her husband, some have announced that they will appeal the ruling.
With her brave stance to make her trial public – which is something she had to fight for – Gisèle Pelicot has truly shown how shame can change sides.

Unlike domestic violence, they sometimes get covered in the media here in Switzerland. Even though media coverage did improve in recent years, a femicide too often gets framed as a 'family drama' or 'tragedy'. Call it what it is, murder. Date: 13/11/2024 Location: Bern, Alpeneggstrasse The slogan «Woman, Life, Freedom» has its origins in the women-led Kurdish movement (Jin, Jiyan, Azadî). It was picked up by the protests in Iran in 2022, following the death of Mahsa Amini, who was killed by the so called ‘morality’ police for not dressing up to their standards. In October 2024 in a widely shared video on social media, we saw a woman in Teheran walking around in her underwear. It is reported that she acted in protest after being assaulted by campus security guards. The authorities on their part frame it as a mental breakdown. Another classic chess move in the sexist game of discrediting women, of denying their bodily autonomy and their right to protest against repressions. When the latest femicide in Switzerland was reported in a local newspaper, the author points out the foreign origins of the husband, who first killed his wife, and then himself. She was only 29 years old (source: https://www.stopfemizid.ch). Later on the author described how in general terms there is a rise in femicides. We can only speculate about the intentions of this journalist. But whether it was on purpose or out of naiveté, the media should know better and always consider a bad faith reading. As it is, it reads like a dog whistle for all the right wing racists, who will not shy away from saying the quiet part out loud. This will only fuel their xenophobic anti-immigration politics.
