Observations of an academic librarian. Full of sass and harass. Opinions all mine.

Go ahead and laugh, kid. Someday you'll be old and won't recognize a single band name on a major music festival poster either.

You can always tell which ones are from me. The paper is always over the top.

A tip (actually 2) for helping users who use #ScreenReaders to read Mastodon.

1) When using #HashTags, write them using #CamelCase, so each word starting with a capital.

2) Don't use emoji in your Display Name. These emoji are read as 'colon emojiname colon' every time a post of yours is read..

And of course, try to use alt-text for images when possible.

@bookstodon @maryellen my husband and I read it with a small group of student workers over the summer. More motivation to complete it that way.

Mondrian Crescent

I love it when train doors align at the end of a tunnel. The red tiles at Green Park station make this the ideal location to capture this moment.

It wasn't luck though, instead I froze the moving train with a fast shutter. It took ages to get it centred.

This final image resembles an abstract art painting by Piet Mondrian.

@libraries @AnnieTheBook@writing.exchange better yet, we employee students who are ALSO tour guides!

Some things never change.

Spotify list showing my top artist is Frightened Rabbit l. I listened to them for 494 minutes and I’m in the top 2% of listeners.

@AnnieTheBook@writing.exchange @libraries I was at my alma mater and overheard a tour get everything wrong about the library. I definitely emailed admissions to correct them. Why is this so hard for them??

Scene from my last day.

New job starts Monday!

Mostly empty work desk surrounded by mostly empty bookshelves.

@libraries @davebrarian Our librarians have a sock exchange at the holidays. Fun socks only! These would be a great addition.

@shawncalhoun I’m not even against that part (ok maybe spelling it with a k is a problem) but the combo? 🤢

Absolutely not.

Grocery story sushi with imitation krab and crushed hot Cheetos on top.

Just found in my work desk drawer. They sell Easter candy at Thanksgiving, right??

2022-11-12

@RobertS interestingly enough, the student workers I manage hadn’t really heard of it.

We promote texts pretty heavily in our library to help combat textbook costs. It’s the faculty with their codes that make both a non option for some students.

The fact they are called toots might just be what wins me over.

2022-11-12

@iamwpj I knew it was going to happen but was thinking a light dusting.

Not ready for this. Not at all.

Snow covering trees and the ground.
