Tears of the Kingdom How To: Step 1: Fire up the game and complete the mandatory tutorial. Step 2: Completely ignore all quests and roam the countryside acquiring all of the special clothing sets. Step 3: tbd

@aryounce Good article. It is indeed complex, and luckily what I mean is exactly the student/dev who won't care if everything gets disabled or nuked. Theres still the problem of the budget being daily granularity, too, but something is better than nothin'.

@glassbottommeg Even if it's not a default in AWS itself, I can totally picture in my head what it would take to lock it down like that. Student opens account, immediately runs a "Student Mode" deployment that locks down some things like regions, more expensive cloud stuff, sets up a budget trigger, then if that budget is hit, it either deactivates everything it can and/or nukes the entire account.

I talk to students all the time, I oughtta just make this myself. :)

I was giving a talk on game development in the aws cloud to a bunch of university students. I always get a little nervous telling students to sign up and try some things, because I wish an AWS account had an easy "poor student friendly" mode of "when I hit spend of $X, turn everything off". Yes, some combination of Budgets and Lambda could maybe do it, but setting that up from scratch for a student is prohibitive. Maybe someone has created a nice CF solution for this already? Like AWS Nuke with a budget trigger? #AWS #CoreyQuinnWasVisionary #Budgets #Students

And to be clear, love the game, can't wait for Skylines 2

2023-04-02

So spurred by the announcement of one day having Cities Skylines 2, I jumped back into Skylines 1. But I forgot what a Zenos Paradox (no pun intended) it is, where I just get pulled deeper and deeper into smaller and smaller minutia. Last I left my enormous city last night , I spent an hour hypertuning a specific, single traffic light to a timed on/off sequence. I will never finish the game as it's a series of progressions in smaller and smaller steps.

Playing #Pentiment and made some bad choices. Feel like a real dirtbag. 😓

What's the best current successful example of separate games where a player can take their assets from one and use in the other? Ideally from separate studios. Ntfs maybe? Is this really a thing? #ntfs #metaverse #games #web3

I think I've played Skyrim 20+ times, for countless hours and hours, but have never finished it. Just got so focused on individual side quests. How does it end, does the main character solve their anger issues and not shout at everyone? #skyrim

An antique, and therefore pretty rare shot of young #JohnMastodon working on a different prototype, at a time when registrations had to be manually picked and hard-wired one by one in the main memory-bank of the instance. (ca. 1927)

"Oh boy!", John was probably thinking to himself, "This is a dang pretty registration we got here!"

The talk by Epic at the #aws #reinvent keynote is absolutely mindblowing. We are living in the future.

Unreal 5.1 has so much love for foliage. Two sided foliage, and foliage nanite support, and the world size went from 22 km to 88 *Million* km.

I can finally build that interplanetary-size forest I've been dreaming of.

Spent many unfulfilled hours watching House of the Dragon waiting for Bob Saget and/or John Stamos to come raise those dragons and teach valuable life lessons but then realized I misunderstood the title.

Listen up, it's not just silly superstition. You gotta say "bird site" or similar when you post on Mastodon, because if you say the real name, it comes in the night and steals your children.

Also, take this dead crow and bury it under the full moon, for protection.

Writing standalone game functions in AWS Lambda with C#, and I somehow missed you can now use the .NET 7 AOT compilation tooling to hugely remove the cold starts. Will try, wish me luck.
