"Are you going to look that good when you're that old?"
I like Physics, Astronomy, Biology, and Computer Science. Chemistry and Mathematics, not so much...
"Are you going to look that good when you're that old?"
A NASA astronaut has captured an electrifying image of Earth from space, featuring a gigantic, jellyfish-shaped "sprite" of red lightning shooting upwards above a thunderstorm in North America. The rare phenomenon is still poorly understood, despite being studied for more than 30 years.

So if you're looking at the US & thinking "This isn't the country I know," you're 100% right. It's not.
We're actually fighting back in real time for once.
Hello Americans on Mastodon, I know we don't feel like there's much to celebrate this July 4th. It's been a rough several years.
So I want to talk about how we're making history right now.

It’s sobering to realize that there are powerful people in Washington and Silicon Valley who believe America’s biggest problem is that it has too many non-white people and they’ve been successfully executing on a decade long plan to “fix” it.

In my research biologist days, I was able to get AI off my list. Longer story, but the punchline was "Not only did ChatGPT fail to give me the correct answer, but it's answer was so wrong that I'm going to spend hours trying to figure out how it arrived at such a wrong answer!"
RFK Jr.‘s health department calls Nature “junk science,” cancels subscriptions
The move comes after RFK Jr. called top medical journals "corrupt."

Crazy how the Democrats, who “are the same” as Republicans, all voted against gutting healthcare and creating a police state, while all but 3 Republicans voted for it. One of these things is not like the other.

This is amazing. Please share far and wide! I don't care if you boost me or put it on your own account, just please share:
USC's journalism school has stepped up big time, helping people to file motions to have their immigration hearings via Zoom. Then they can avoid the #ICE monsters abducting them from the court houses.

I wouldn't say it changed how I felt about music. I still like studio produced over live music. But seeing the Psychedelic Furs in Concert, and seeing that most of the sound I had associated with synthesizer was instead created by saxophone & clarinet was eye opening and gave me an appreciation of the musicianship and showmanship

In Belgium pro-#Palestinian activists smash up an armoured vehicle plant preparing vehicles for #Ukraine. Now British pro-Palestinian #activists reportedly planned to target airbases used to train Ukrainian pilots.
I don't for a second believe these are coincidences.
Back in the day, Twitter used to be really good if I set up a thread to connect freelancers with clients. Let's see if Mastodon can do it.
Clients: if you're looking for freelancers/contractors, get in the comments
Freelancers/contractors: get in the comments
Everyone else: boosts appreciated.
The market is *dead* for freelancers and a big part of that (in my opinion) is fragmentation. Let's get that network effect *back*.
Merkley had a pretty effective day.
Or will have, if you make this go viral.
