Back in September of last year I had a great time being a part of this dig. An excellent site, some great finds with extremes of weather (both good and bad). It's certainly worth a watch! Goes out at 7pm this evening UK time. #timeteam #archaeology

The Risks of Buying ATU-100 Tuners Online
It's clear I'm guilty of performing insufficient research before purchasing these sorts of units online. For those already familiar with the problem, this post simply reinforces what's already covered in great detail on the internet. In short, don't buy one off Amazon / E-Bay (or direct from China for that matter), just build one yourself...

Is HF operation still possible from a residential location?
I've learned a lot this weekend.

I suspect I've known this for quite sometime, but I must have had issues in accepting it. I've been a listener on the HF bands since the early 1970's. I got my amateur radio license back in 1976 and have been active on and off ever since. What I recall from those early days was that th

We recently purchased a static caravan in the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's such a wonderful area for walking. This one, a five mile wander from Arnside following the coast as far as Far Arnside, then cutting back up and over Arnside Knott. #AONB

Had some spare time in Liverpool last weekend so finally went to
the Western Approaches Museum. For those who haven't been, it's well worth a visit. My Dad served in the Navy on both the Atlantic and Russian conveys so the visit had a special connection for me. #museum

For quite some time now I've been running a couple of 433MHz #TinyGS stations. One has a vertically polarised antenna, the other horizontal. Both capture roughly the same number of LORA satellites, but it's interesting to see the differences in what they capture. I recently added a station listening on 868MHz and today, I think I captured some telemetry from the ISTANBUL satellite. This is the only satellite currently on that band so I'm very happy with that!

Thoroughly enjoyable evening at the Royal Albert Hall to watch The Rest is Politics Live! May have to make this an annual thing 😀 #TRIPlive

Well after the demise (following a power cut) of a Raspberry Pi 4, I've repurposed a 2012 Mac Mini to run WSJT-X with JT-Bridge and Aether. Currently knocking off more countries on 60M FT8. It's all working rather well. #hamradio

Well after a considerable amount of faffage, I think I've finally managed to renew my US Amateur Radio License. I don't have much opportunity to use it these days, but I'm damned if I'm going to let it lapse! Now waiting for something from the FCC to let me know it's gone through. #hamradio

I was introduced to this a couple of weeks back by a good friend. Now, I’m hoping to get my third #TinyGS station on the air in the coming days. The first two are both on 433MHz, one with a vertical aerial, the other horizontal. The third will be on the 868MHz band. Really enjoying getting involved in satellites again. #LORA satellites are really quite remarkable. See tinygs.com for more details.

Well I'm now joining many other members of the 'What is this fresh hell called Apple Watch OS 10" club. From being perfectly functional, my S7 will no longer make it through the day, the battery now dies early evening. I've even given it three days to 'settle down', but no difference. Everything that I thought was useful has either gone or moved to somewhere where it takes more swipes / clicks to get there. If you're thinking of 'upgrading', just don't!! #apple

Really wish some amateur radio folk would make an effort on digital modes to set their audio levels correctly. Some I can barely hear, others make the shack windows rattle.... #hamradio

Well that’s the new 4M aerial up (on the right) following the demise of the previous one (corroded away). So far seems good. Time will tell. Listening 70.45MHz in the shack. #amateurradio #4metres
