#IndieGame generalist at Aetheric Games some of the time, and #GameDev lecturer at Edinburgh College other times. Undercover, queerly neurospicy nerd, attempting to infiltrate the normals with a big coat and a fake moustache. Currently working on ... something new? #Edinburgh, #Scotland

3 events is more of a "goings on"
@mogwai_poet the entomology nerds evolved an additional guy and made it into the X-files.
@pivot oh, same 😇🤞
gimme 30 seconds and a bunch of reroute nodes, and I'll purdy that right up
I'm pretty sure that's an ubergraph - not a blueprint someone made but a half-baked version slapped together by the compiler, that you're never meant to see
Sometimes I wonder why CRT7 is taking so long to make...
Then I remember I'm launch a new BSc in Games Development and Production degree that I've been developing for the last year or so and have a little flash of pride and/or realisation! 🧡
This exists because of the (huge amount) of work from me and a few awesome colleagues! That's pretty cool 😍

@Themikina @simseye yes! This. Galaxy brain meme format... First you have to learn to analyse. Then you foster the habit and analysis becomes inextricable to your enjoyment. Then, galaxy brain, you have to re-learn how to just feel it, so you can analyse that.
@bsletten The thing is, we grew up as nerds with a special interest in a niche field. The younguns also include nerds with the same special interests. The mistake is to assume that they're all that way when "nerdy computer stuff" is just as much of a niche interest as it was 30 years ago, if not more so.
In fact, I realise, that misconception is the whole point of the joke. I got it while I was typing (bravo!), but I've gone too far to not post. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
@ghosttie I guess it just wants you to specify a type. It's saying that it doesn't know what type to expect A to be, so it's preparing for it to be >100 different types.
Hi Mastodon! I've been quite quiet around here because it turns out that launching a new undergrad degree programme is... a lot of work?
I *have* been working away at #CRT7, however and I've just about finished a new, unique paper puzzle section! You can even cross out/discount cells now!
Love it when people share these kinds of "behind the scenes" views of their work, showing that we're all just trying to figure things out as we go, often improvising, and making good use of shortcuts to get good results.

@DelphineUnseen @Moosader There isn't like "magic" in that mythos? It's more like innate abilities that can be amplified or corrupted. Gandalf is bright and fiery by nature (like a Balrog is dark and fiery). The elven ring he wears just boosts it. Whenever a character uses the word "magic" or similar, it's usually a pejorative, or it means something closer to "tech", like the Palantiri or rings. It's artificially overreaching yourself, which is dangerous.
@DelphineUnseen @Moosader that, and it also kinda takes whatever power you have and cranks it up with Sauron's power. Galadriel tells us what it would do for her. A Boromir, eg., could become an unnaturally formidable warlord. It doesn't do as much for little folk. Bilbo became especially good at being a fruity old bachelor.
@mogwai_poet The Tommyknockers, obviously. I will not elaborate.
@afreytes By that rationale, I'd say that a souls-like can only hit 1 or 2 of those points, never the first.
E.g. From Soft's games make you feel weak at first, but it's ultimately about overpowering everything. The dread part, that varies with your level. The big scary thoughts though - that's there if you're looking for it.
