Why is it, no matter how much I search for prices for a heat-pump or household battery to go with the solar panels, *every* company touts a "free quote" yet demands contact details?
What happened to putting prices on the web upfront like honest companies? This is shady dirty behaviour. Why should I do business with any of them?

can we, like, replace that massive space bar with a smaller one such that we can move some of the modifier keys over, so that we don't need to reach for the corner of our keyboard each time we need them?

You noticed how google search became unusably shit a few years ago?
Turns out that was on purpose

The recent court documents showed that Google's internal testing demonstrated that significantly worse search results would not harm their business operations. This apparent immunity to quality concerns stems from the company's dominant market position, which the recent federal court ruling
addressed. "Since Google doesn't have any real competition, it can make the best information hard to find, forcing users to stay on Google for longer and interact with more ads," Papadimitriou said. "This is dangerous for consumers, most of whom think the best results
appear first."
The strategy appears to be working from a business perspective. The study suggests that poor organic search results actually benefit Google's bottom line in two ways: they make paid advertisements more valuable to users seeking accurate information, and they force users to refine their searches multiple
times, exposing them to more advertising in the process.

Found this last night on #Reddit. Yup.

#Mastodon #SocialNetworking

I have been using Mastodon for a couple of years now, and while the privacy focus is part of the shift, the bigger shift is understanding that Twitter and Mastodon are not competitors. PixelFed and Instagram are not competitors.

The old platforms are social media. They are entertainment platforms that nominally connect you to friends. But their actual customers are advertisers and entertainers (influencers?)

The new federated platforms are social networking. They're community-owned and operated for the sole purpose of serving a community. They don't have customers, they have members. They are collaborative efforts run by individuals and not-for-profits.

@efi hmm, how does this work... I just end up doing nothing :blobfoxupsidedown:

2025-05-11

@whyrl haha nice, that sounds like something that would work, but my issue is that I wouldn't be able to bring myself to start the tasks so early (as opposed to leaving it until the last minute instead xP)

How does one achieve such willpower to "attend to tasks immediately"? Is this an attainable power?! :drgn_happy_blep:

2025-05-11

@whyrl Awesome, thanks! I think you might have read my mind regarding the reply I was just typing out in response to your previous message lol.

Regarding difficulties starting/stopping tasks, it feels like we have a lot of inertia: hard to start, but also hard to stop lol

@whyrl @littlefox ah, I see, thanks! I've been trying some monster as of late. Do you feel the sugar or the caffeine is the thing helping out?

Also, how much more effective are the actual meds compared to self-medicating in your experience?

Also, sorry for all the questions, are there other ways that helped you be more productive?

Thanks :3
